A1H Skyraider BLU-27 drop

Post by DogACTUAL »

If you drop the BLU-27 (napalm) in the A1H Skyraider while pulling/pitching up (with full force) at the same moment, it will explode instantly directly on the aircraft (probably hits the tail).
You can clearly see by the flames afterwards that it exploded in the sky by touching the aircraft.

This always leads to the aircraft starting to burn, or sometimes being destroyed instantly.

Also, munitions like these have a safety and would never detonate on the plane itself, therefore it is an unintended bug.

Nah, the bullet "spawn offset" can be changed.

When pilots in r/l do loft bombing they don't actually pull back as they are dropping the bomb, they are just flying upwards when the bomb is dropped, to avoid this kind of issue.

Possibly need to add an arming delay to the Napalm however?

ye but will look shit for anyone looking to see the bomb on the belly to suddenly be a meter or so under it when its dropped and wouldn't be realistic.

The bomb is not a projectile, but actually a vehicle with a forceObject attached to it. The reason of this is because when it detonates, it doesn't just need to explode, but also burn for a while, still dealing damage. There's a Python script "listening" for this Napalm bomb to explode, so it can spawn a "burn vehicle" on that location.

Anyway, the spawned bomb has 1 hitpoint or so, so it explodes the second it comes in contact with anything. If you give it more hitpoints, you might end up with an unexploded bomb, or see a bomb push itself across the terrain :p .

The solution to prematurely exploding bombs is probably to spawn it a little further away from the plane, but might end up looking weird, as Rhino says.

AFAIK modern jets do in CCRP mode, but yes, i would imagine an old plane like this can't without severe inaccuracy. I also tested it flying at an angle upwards while not pulling up at all, still happens (not always and not at every upward angle, but it happens). And regardless ingame a lot of times you are gonna end up dropping bombs while pulling up because of the view distance restraints (don't wanna crash into the ground or get too close).
Youre not dropping nukes with that plane are you?
If you had read the link just a little bit you would have seen that the technique is mainly used with conventional unguided bombs to avoid the aircraft overpassing the target area for example.
Just like i was trying to do ingame when i was bombing a superFOB with AAA and RPGs on it.

But i guess u r just interested in 'muh intellectual superiority circlejerk', therefore don't even try to have a real argument, just try to nitpick everything i say. Sad!

Would it be possible to spawn it further in front rather than more below? Because i think it usually strikes the tail. Maybe like this it wouldn't look that weird.
