Key word here... wants M27IARs. I was taught many times to take Marine Corps Times articles with a grain of salt.

The reality is the USMC has yet to decide on two things, a proper optic for a standard issue M27, and which magazine to adopt for Automatic Riflemen M27s (either 45 round or 100 round, who knows?)

Additionally with rumors about a new round being developed, mostly because the 5.56mm being obsolete against modern battle armor, and engagements being 300m+, who knows what the next service weapon will be? I'm sure you know the "M4/M16 replacement discussion" has been ongoing since 2001

Shorter reload time, more mags, SDO, and bipod. If it's merely an alt rifleman then everyone could get one. I don't know what happened with it but extended mags were tested. Similar to how the RPK mags fit the AK and vice versa (I own mags for both).

As an alt MG kit it would limit the SAW just like in a real rifle company. But, just like the M4/M16, I think it would only be appropriate to have these changes in fictional map settings like Pavlovsk etc. Pretty sure this is not a big deal on the dev side, the marksman was once part of the spawn menu and only some maps had LAT at spawn.

Is there any chance we'll get selective fire back for weapons with deployed mode?

IMO this is the best option.

Yeah I know the Military Times is often unreliable. Extended mags were tested for the M27 and I think certain types were found unreliable and banned, personally I'd prefer the 45 round mag, again it works for a Russian AR also, why not for us? Hope that's what they decide on. Also a hell of a lot easier to carry.

The M16 replacement stuff has been going on for several decades, hell that's been a debate since before any of us were born. It's all but replaced by the M4 now, which as you know is just a smaller rifle of the same platform. But, the SAW has been replaced, as has the DM rifle, using the same optics as the weapons they replaced. But, the Times isn't the only source reporting the end of the M4 (POS rifle if you ask me). UPI, Newsweek, and some others too. Commandant is quoted as saying he wants the grunts to have "the coolest shit from head to toe." A huge breath of fresh air after years of Famous ****...

Over the next decade, the French (Legion and regular) will replace the POS Famas with the HK416F as well.

I did some training with a Coast Guard boarding team, they hated their guns (229 I think) because of rust. I was carrying a G22 at the time, for comparison.

I know the M27IAR uses the same optics carried over from the SAW, but there was another article that said they want a new sight for the "infantry" version of the IAR.

They feel the ACOG sight on current IAR is not appropriate. Which it is, the reticle is for automatic fire, the zoom is only 3.5x, and the eye relief is longer by an inch I think.

Elcan, Trijicon, and probably somebody else are about to compete for this contract.

ELcan was being phased out last time I checked, maybe that was just the army. I also used to have a document from the marines talking about the new trijicon optics being made for that, the saw and 240 so I thought it was already decided.

I was talking about the SpectreDr or something similar being adopted as the standard issue sight, like what the British did with L85s.

The Marine Corps said they want a sight that allows engagements for targets at close range and up to 600m. So either a sight that has 1x and 4x capability like the Specter DR, or some sort of Triicon scope with an RMR on top.

This is entirely speculation about what sight exactly, but the M16A4 ACOGs are getting old and the SDO sight is inappropriate for semi-auto fire

But most likely it will be a new Trijicon optic as they seem to have established a good relationship with the Marine Corps
