Fight Club

Post by FarmerNerd »

Getting into this game is harder than standing outside fightclub for 30 nights in the rain.
I understand that keeping it exclusive helps in reducing trolling , however , i feel we could benefit from more interest in the game, as it is truly an amazing game.
The Vast majority of pc gamers are just incapable of downloading, extracting and installing the game.
If there was an easy - "next ,next, next" downloader and installer im, sure this games popularity would rise parabolicly .

It literally is a next, next, next installer? Sure downloading is the most complicated part, since torrents are now a rarity but other than that? Mounting an .iso file on Windows 10 is a simple double click and then it is pressig next. I can't see a way in which it could be easier.

I have no idea what are you referring to. Are you sure you're not viewing a manual from 2010 back when it required 6 separate downloads?

Either you use a torrent, which in itself is restricting new users who prefer download options, or you download the google drive 13 part download and extract it.

Sounds simple i know but , for users coming from consoles ect it is not.
They want to go to project reality website , go to download game, click 1 button to download the game and install lit when finished.

I know this because my friend who is new to pc's but not games , could not get the game to work, and i had to go and download and install it for him, he can download and install steam games fine, but extracting ect was too much for him, as it will be for the majority of new users.

Torrents aren't rocket science. There's a guide on the forums.

That's not official.

Do you wanna volunteer money to host it directly? These stuff aren't cheap. This is a non-profit organization. We do have some communities hosting the file directly. It costs money.

MrTaylor there is no need to be so aggressive, i enjoy your game, and im merely pointing out a flaw in ease of use . nothing is perfect and it doesnt mean im hating on your game.

I understand these things have a cost to them, and i would find that interesting to discuss, im sure all the other work u guys put into the game also has value. To me it has so much value that it warrents a far larger playerbase. Im no developer so i dont know the difference in the quantity of effort required to build and host a 1 click download and install compared to all the other work u guys regularly do on maps and vechles ect. I do however feel that if a 1 click download and install was achieved it would dramatically increase the playerbase, and id been keen to discuss how we could make it happen.

Note- i just noticed the file hosted above, if this is a 1 click download and install then it is fantasic, and should be better advertised how to get to it.

I agree, I think people underestimate just how illiterate people are when it comes to anything outside click and install or click and open on the computer. I mean im sure most people can install PR if they really want it, but lots of casual gamers or people who've only ever played game's on Steam might come across PR and get scared the moment they see words like Torrents, mounting, disk burning program etc. I know its minuscule and silly but it genuinely will and probably has stopped people getting PR.

I think so too. Many people equate torrent(ing programs) to something illegal and even that might be enough to stop them from downloading.

I bet your average PC-user has no idea how to install PR without VERY specific guide with images.

Wasn't PR promoted on Reddit when PR 1.0 was released? I think it was other reasons why people stopped playing this game rather than the installing difficulty.

There's not even the need for mounting/burning. Winrar let's you open isos. Torrents now are literally as difficult as extracting a .rar

I am sorry, but if you use a PC, these kinda things are really essential to know. Let's not dumb down to level where knowledge is not important anymore, because "next, next, next" users are the worst, because fails to read, what is asked and usually blames everyone else, if something does not work even thou problem is in their end.

That is the reason I don't like most of the console players, because they are way too casual and cant be bothered to learn and understand basic mechanics and principles.

This is a complete non-issue, Torrents are extremely easy to use, just download a Torrent client, double click the file to start downloading the game and leave it be, how hard can this be?

And .iso? Come on, using Daemon Tools (which is free) you just double click the damn file and from there it's like installing something from a DVD, or you can extract it using WinRAR like the guys mentioned before me.

This is extremely basic and a 1 minute read should suffice if someone somehow doesn't know about this. If some people find it so hard to the point of just giving up, perhaps it's best they stay away from this game after all.

A torrent and an automatic installer, how much easier do you want to make it for an obscure mod for a 12 year old game?

Simplifying installation would require a ton of work involving rewriting the setup to act like a torrent, which means time wasted when it's better spent fixing bugs, introducing new features and making the game more stable and awesome.

I don't think there will be any motivation for doing all the work for the little gain it will provide (Not using a torrent program)

As others said, it's quite simple to install. Also, this is technically a suggestion thread outside of the suggestion section.
