Why do old maps disappear?

Post by Antilopax »

Hello!
Just out of curiosity: is it really necessary to remove older maps from the game?
For example I would love to play Quinling again.. I know its on the classic maps pack but no halfway populated server ever plays these.
Why can't you just leave the old maps in the game when you do updates? (honest question)

They increase final download size considerably, maybe in future when faster broadband is accessible they will be included, untill then there are still organized events hosted by clans that feature older maps.

Its also due to quality of overall experience. Qinling wasn't favored even by its maker, iirc it was because of steep hills.

-We have plenty good replacements to fase out old maps so that new maps have more chances of being played.
-Most cases maps are actually removed when the creator of said map is displeased with it and doesn't want it to be played anymore (until fixed ).
-Heavy increase is game size.
-Upkeeping all these maps with fixes and changes every release is a lot of work.

*laughs in Muttrah and Kashan*

Also getting rid of Shikotan Island was a mistake. It was clearly the superior map to Saaremaa.

Shikotan's creator did not like the map and that's the end of it.

Would be nice if you could include those which actually can be included?

I mean, there is a lot of maps but they also get overplayed to a certain extent and if we have the possibility to get some maps back it would actually be pretty fun.

The community is good enough for it to not turn into a shitfest but I could imagine Ejod being a fucking meat grinder :P

Pls consider this, let us enjoy this mod while it still lasts and have the possiblity to play these maps.

That's either all, none or ones that can support assets. Which brings me to my next point:

Maps with vehicle assets is what gets played nowadays, that's why it's the same maps over and over. Second place is Insurgency for the free deaths and asymmetrical assets.

In no way, shape, or form is that true.
