Transport helicopters
Hey, i've used to be in the army and i've some experience with helo transport and a lot that comes with it. With that in mind i have a few questions regarding the PR transport helo's.
1) why do basicly all the transport helo's have the same amount of seats? In what world isn't it possible for a chinook to carry more then 5 passengers (excl crew)? what's the advantage of flying that bolky monster of an helo for only 5 soldiers?
I can appreciate that the PR dev's can't make it so that the chinook can hold 48 soldiers but to have the chinook carry only 1 more soldier compared to the uh1n for example is rediculous..
An other configuration could be that the chinook is able to transport a team or full squad with a vehicle (jeep) onboard.
The same thing for the NH90 with only 4 troops (r/l 20 troops), eventhough it's much more bulky and harder to land then the uh1n.
That being said i find flying the NH90 realistic the only thing is it gets just a little to much damage to easy when landing. Other then that i love flying it.
2) The 2 side-window guns are missing on the chinook..
3) Isn't it possible to get a fast-rope option for helo's? I say this because their are the grapling hooks, so i figured that that configuration could be used with helo's. So that the helo would load up troops, fly to the dropzone, hover, select fastropes (just like selecting crate), soldiers get out with them, give the all clear, helo drops ropes and takes off. To do that again the helo would have to resupply/rearm at base.
4) Rediculous controllability of the littlebird, black hawk and lynx mostly with hovering and landing. I use the thrustmaster T.16000M HOTAS. The little bird and lynx fly like they have no weight at all, which makes them allmost impossible to land on the point you want them to.. A good example is ramiel, i like to simulate the black hawk down scene where the SF teams are dropped on the roof and streets with the little birds but it's almost impossible to do so in PR.
With the black hawk i didn't have any problem when i used the m&kb but now with the flystick and throttle, every time i want to land and close the throttle, as soon as the lever goes past the halfway point the helo just drops to the ground..
5) For Coop/offline play. Would it be possible to get camera's point that represent the gunner or other crewmember that in real life hangs out to give adjustments to the pilot during landing. Even better would me a little screen within the screen so you can land nicely and keep the helo leveled without landing on a car or fence some shit like that.
Helo's are an incredible asset to the battle field but when used they require a lot of planning and care! LZ's need to be secured for supply missions. Chinooks/UH1n/NH90's need to be escorted by attack helo's when dropping troops and/or equipment behind and around enemy lines. Depending on the circumstances even an aav can be used to cover a troop transport. Getting a squad of elite soldiers behind enemy lines to do small spec ops missions can be vital to the battle when planned and executed correctly.
A lot of times it's a big risk to use helo's but don't underestemate the reward when used correctly!
Please combine your answers with the corresponding number. Thanks

Re: Transport helicopters
1) 8 is the maximum amount of seats in any vehicle. Not possible.
2) The model doesn't have those. Not a huge concern for us since most servers don't want trans helos to be a fighting asset
3) The answer was "it's not possible to do that" for the past 14 years. We recently found a work-around that mimics it somewhat but said work-around is not implemented yet.
4) Coding these is incredibly iffy and takes time. Not sure if anyone's working on it to make it closer to their IRL specs.
5) Probably doable.

Re: Transport helicopters
iirc, Squad game from OWI also has limited seats in their helicopters, even though they can set any amount. Cuz for gameplay reasons limited seats fits well, otherwise, even one mi-8 could carry around almost entire faction team in itself, just one heli - that looks silly, and just 1 pilot would ever be needed for the map, same applies to the land trucks too. If you have seat limitation, you would need more helicopter vehicles, more pilots to transport and that gives a sense of big scale warfare, when multiple helicopters flying to a mission, or multiple transport convoy trucks drive around map. That's why limited seats is not such a bad thing.

Spec-ops and fastropes suggestions outside of suggestion forum? It's been a while. Only thing missing is silencers or something like that.

Technically this topic was more setup as a series of questions rather than suggestions but your right, it has been a while

Re: Transport helicopters
Not possible at all? Seems unlikely but if the Dev's say so..Frontliner wrote:1) 8 is the maximum amount of seats in any vehicle. Not possible.
I do want to clearify that i wouldn't propose that a chinook would be able to carry the real life amount of troops in PR. I'm simply asking why the differents between some helo's is so small troop carry wise. For example the chinook and the uh1n have only one passenger more or less then the other. Really weird when you have such a big helo like the chinook compared to the much smaller uh1n. I have no problem with limitations on the amount of seats just the difference between some helo's.
People can say wel it's not fair to be able to transport half or the whole team with one helo but when you even the odds by making it easier for the other team to take it down, cause in that case the helo using team is super fucked! So there has to be that balance. You can use that big *** helo and transport a lot of troops but without cover or an escort, you're fucked i.o.w. high risk high reward and low risk low reward.
ps: transporting a vehicle (small jeeps, etc) with the chinook isn't an option?

A chinook isn't, shouldn't and normally can not be used as a fighting asset. The thing is to big and bulky to be an effectieve fighting asset. One rpg in the belly and down she goes. In real life no shinook normally flies without an escort and ideally the LZ is already secured and has overwatch so the chinook can drop it's cargo safely (at least safe as possible). I don't understand why this can't be implemented in PR. If people don't want the chinook to be used as an fighting asset then you should look at why it isn't used as an fighting asset in real life and why it would be used like that in PR. Compare the 2 and i think you can get even closer to reality then you think, with spawntimes, armor amount on the helo etc.Frontliner wrote:2) The model doesn't have those. Nice! So it will be implemented? The when is a hard one to answer so i'll leave it up to you to answer it or not.Frontliner wrote:3) The answer was "it's not possible to do that" for the past 14 years. Off course and i've been a soldier in a combat unit for 7. First armored infantry and later the recon platoon of that brigade. So a lot of knowledge that i want to use to help you guys, cause PR and the people behind it have my respect and admiration for what you're doing and already have accomplished! I can't wait for V1.6 but these thinks bugged me and i couldn't directly find a thread on it.Frontliner wrote:You do realize we've played this game for a couple of years?

Despite all the work we put into this game, this is still a mod for an engine that we do not have the source code forJ.Jensen wrote:Not possible at all? Seems unlikely but if the Dev's say so..
It is not possible to make more than 8 seats on a vehicle.
Its done in such a hacky way and we're uncapable of doing 1P or 3P soldier animations with it. Carrying vehicles is something I want to do but it wont be done any time soon.Nice! So it will be implemented? The when is a hard one to answer so i'll leave it up to you to answer it or not.
For flight physics, look for rpoxo on discord. But don't expect it to be simple.Awsome, can we find out if someone is working on it?
Flight physics is about adjusting variables and components, not writing algorithms. We do not have the source code to do that.
Also you don't have to keep trying to post when the auto anti-spam kicks in, we'll approve them.

With Alon's magic - perhaps, but it looks a little bit differently compared to what you imagine, I guess.J.Jensen wrote:ps: transporting a vehicle (small jeeps, etc) with the chinook isn't an option?

Well to quote myself "A chinook isn't, shouldn't and normally can not be used as a fighting asset". So if it's possible to be used as such in PR, then something's off. Maybe the respawn time, the general usability (if it can't be used effectively the way it's supposed to be used, the thought may rise of just throwing it in there or something) or to hard to take down. I don't know what but something's off if that's how it's used.Suchar wrote:I saw it many times as a really efficient CAS on Operation Archer.
