M4A3 mg

Post by Niki-Tret »

On 3rd position in M4A3 there is mg with no optics no anything just fixed view and everything how you can aim is looking where are bullets hitting. I suggest you make tracers as they are on coax, red or green tracer also as they were in WW2 tanks so mg acctualy can aim a little bit.

that's intentional , US Tank Co-driver/radio operators have no optics in their Bow gun

I know they have no optics, but they have tracers and in PR Co-druver doesn't have even tracers so I suggest to make him has tracers. I never suggested to add optics, just tracers.

We couldn't find any evidence that weapons such as the .30 cal in the M4A3 had any tracers during WW2. In fact, WW2 all together had not as much tracer usage as movies let us to believe. So most weapons don't get tracers in PR WW2.

Didn't US print what bullets are in belts on ammo boxes?

You say they didn't use tracers as much as in movies, but still coax on every tank (in WW2 also) has them.

Duplicate thread: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/showth ... p?t=149672

My idea posted there: "In real life, this gunner would at least know the general direction his gun is pointed. Is it possible to keep the gunfire centered in the screen and have the camera move? There isn't much traverse so it seems doable as the player view hopefully wouldn't glitch through the vehicle. I imagine this working like the minigun if the gun wasn't visible to the player."

IIRC the .50 cal It's the only reliable one we could find some evidence on that they had some tracer ammo for.

Dunno if this matters here but in the M4A2 Technical Manual, ammunition allocation of .30 caliber ammunition includes tracer rounds. I would assume that this allocation would be similar if not the same on the A3? Would this prompt the inclusion of tracers for the bow gunner in-game?

I saw [R-DEV]Arab has made some changes to the next version to include tracers again for the hull gunners. Thanks for the references! If you find any more on tracer usage in WW2 please share!

Will he lock the player camera with the gun? The tracers are an improvement but the player should know where they are generally aiming. The gunner would at least know where he is pointing the weapon.

It should stay like this (fixed) because it was like that in real life where bow gunner had just one hole through what he could see and he was aiming by tracers. But also it would be ok if you make some bar wher you can see where are you aiming for example one box and square going left-right up-down (something like on choppers where pilot can see in which side gunner is pointing, like that but also up and down) because in real life you can approximately know where aee you pointing the gun.

The gunner uses tracers to correct fire and aims by physically pointing the weapon. They could probably move their face up/down/left/right/closer/farther from the view port. I still think the player camera should be fixed to weapon, not the vehicle, it doesn't move much anyway.

Your idea about the aim box is interesting. If the view remains fixed to the vehicle that would be helpful.

Could improve the tracers being drawn more likely which should help. Currently, it shows the red tracers around 3 times per approx 10 seconds.

Will try to make the gun to move with the camera when moving instead of being stationary and try some other suggestions here if that doesn't work.

Though also the Chinese WZ551 gunports would need to be updated as well and other gunport vehicles.
Not sure if they have the vBF2 crosshair still.

From 22: 18 tells about the gunner used tracers to aim and had two periscopes, one moveable(rotatable) and the other fixed.

Its just the show presenter's word, not solid proof, but is a good to know information, if the devs would consider.

If there's a source on how the periscope looks like, I can make it.

I found video where they explain that bow gunner had no sights on it but he was aiming by looking into direction of the gun because he could see where is he pointing the gun throught the hatch and also tracers.

https://youtu.be/cmMynoZxVKA=450

Maybe you can make that you can see the gun and tracers like bow gunner in real life could. In whatever video I look they always say that bow gunner was aiming by tracers and approxymately pointing of the gun.

Just to clear things up: Have discovered that the M4A3 Hullgunner currently (v1.6.0.3) does have the red tracers but because the rate at which the tracers show is low, it appears to look like there's no tracers.

Will work on trying to implement the suggestions.

An update. This might be in the next patch.

In the .tweak code, the camera controls were previously disabled due to the small square that shows when looking in the bottom-right corner, but it should be better than currently:

If someone can make a 3d viewpoint, it would be better than this one.
