Widescreen

Post by Halgesson »

Hi all,

The widescreen user interface seems to be unstretched and it is somewhat too small. Was there a change to the FOV? It seems a little off.

Did something go wrong or is it intended to be like this? Can we make this widescreen optimization optional?

Thanks :)

Yes. Is the aspect ratio set to 1:1 instead of 16:9?

That's actually how its always supposed to look. The UI was always stretched from 800x600. Now its no longer stretched and you're just used to the stretched version.
Whether or not it looks good now is another question.

Imo it does not look as good good. I really like the give up / ARE YOU SURE changes (no more accidents) and separate buttons, but the 'stretch' filled more of the screen and at least how it was designed to work with that stretch, seemed to look better.

It was never designed to work with widescreen monitors that is why it stretched and distorted everything. The resolution for HUD did not change, so everything now only becomes a bit thinner, but height stayed the same. I also have no issues on 16:9 resolution reading anything. What resolutions are you playing on?
Things like white font of ammo being hard to read on snow/desert maps is something we are aware off and working on new fonts to address the issue.

Guys, not wanting to be a prick: I really appreciate you guys updating the game for free and bringing us years of fun.

However, the player base is complaining about these changes. Please don't be in denial! It's not because "we are used to something else", Widescreen is just not 100% there yet. At least give us the option to make these changes optional, please.

I'm on 1440p and it looks so bad that I genuinely thought it was an April Fools' joke - a massive downgrade from the HUD that actually fit the screen properly, regardless of the strech. If you choose to not revert, would it be possible to add an option in the launcher?

That is the proper aspect ratio. The map is horizontally stretched in the original.

Take a grid from the map and count the pixels in mspaint. I'm getting 180x140 pixels representing an area that's supposed to be a square. We were all used to this stretching.

Tbh the new HUD just isnt working as intended.

Granted it does look neat I agree, but its a small neat, way too compact. The map opening up quicker only counters the messing about you have to do now to try to select the option you want and hover the mouse over it.

I know work has gone into its making and that as always is appreciated, but gents I haven't heard one person actually make a positive compliment about it yet, run out of fingers and toes to count the negative ones.

A option in needed to revert back to the old style, or better still keep the old style just make it prettier...Or even make the squad selection side bigger and leave the map as is.

No point changing something that isnt broken. and no one actually complained about the old style at all, be it the wrong aspect ratio or not.

All the more reason to revert then.

Pretty much this. Perhaps if the UI was 10 or 20% bigger it would be perfect.

Not all of us have 27" monitors so in some monitors the font and everything is really small.

It's still the same size as before vertically. So it's not the aspect ratio change, you find text/buttons too small to read in general?

I find the Map fine, the Kit/squad selection way too small.

JFYI I have a 42" screen, just because the screens bigger doesn't mean its easier to read. I have a Tiny little hud in the middle of it now....

It definitely looks more squished now than it ever looked stretched before. Regardless it should take up the whole screen in widescreen mode, lol, that's just common sense.

Oh and btw the kit tab should also say spawn since you can't do that on the squad tab. Should say Kit/Spawn and I'm not sure how switching the bottom right to Close over Done is better, perhaps, Spawn?

Change the Font to something more compatible with wide screens and increase its size and we're good.
