You can change gamma settings on your graphics card. Meaning game has no say in it.Tajulek wrote:Wouldn't locking the gamma setting solve the problem? It's not that anyone actually uses the gamma settings in other way but to gain advantage (in any game).

Should probably keep that and subject the rest to an opinion poll.Outlawz7 wrote:You have Sbeneh INS64 at night, opinions on that?

Goose Green at night is ACE, gets ruined immediately with gamma guys, otherwise it's really how a night map should be.
Sbeneh is also very good, Tad Sae less so, Nuijamaa is not even night.

Re: Remove Night Maps
For me night maps are like day maps are use camouflage, peek through the leaves, don't stick out, move slightly behind the foliage to get full picture of target zone. Police up each others exposure and camouflage in sight of each other but out of explosive impact angles/radius so only one person gets hurt per explosion. Do this and divide the fire of attention of the enemy and more, turning up gamma wont matter then. If the enemy can turn up the brightness to increase his confidence then you should increase the skills.AlonTavor wrote:Night maps are whoever-turns-gamma-up-more-wins. I also don't like them.
Look at Squad v12 and Project Reality 1.5 teamwork playlist to learn 20+ skills. Individual movement techniques, combat techniques of fire, individual fieldcraft camouflage, artillery, CQC(close quarters combat) section by Vietnam Vet Mike Mah. He describes how he survived many nights in fighting holes for 13 months in Vietnam with a broken M-16 many times and a Ka-Bar knife. Most of his close quarters combat experience is at night

Nothing "turned out" on our end, in fact I think we are adding even more night layers along with WW2 maps.UncleSmek wrote:How did this turn out?

If we can work night vision out for modern factions* I am all for it. Would be pretty great and bring in some new players

The only good nightmap in PR was Mashtuur night with PMC and night vision.

using the engine as an excuste is just lazy, that excuse can literally be used by anything in this game lmaoFFG wrote:nevermind the night maps in the SF expansion....

Blaming the engine sure is lazy but for some things there are actual limitations of what the engine can achieve. For example, fast ropes. Suggested for ages, never implemented due to limitations of the battlefield engine.

Night maps allow an opportunity for exploits (gamma boosting). If night maps are going to stay, there should be an incentive preventing exploitation of features. Perhaps rural night maps should be saturated with more light sources i.e burning vehicles / oil fields or periodic artillery flare-barrages. Would that do anything to mitigate the advantages of playing with increased gamma? What's the performance cost?
It would be worth exploring how a map's light sources influence the effects of gamma boosting.

Re: Remove Night Maps
Half the time on night maps I can't even tell who is who. It should slow down play but I've never seen that. It just makes everything hard to see with random kills from nowhere, especially if your PC is in the light or near a window in the day time.
All you have to do is sit somewhere in a bush or in a window in the open and just wait. Or you try to attack and get killed from random areas constantly.
I really don't care to screw around with gamma, try to block the sunlight from my windows, and shut off all my lights just to be able to see on some bs fuck fest of a map.
I don't care if they are removed or not, but to me, night maps just mean I disconnect and go do something else.

PFFFFTT there are no limits, you just gotta find the back door, Fast ropes are coming, maybe even vehicle sling loading, it's possible but the thing now is to find out how to make it realistic and possible?LiamNL wrote:Blaming the engine sure is lazy but for some things there are actual limitations of what the engine can achieve. Re: Remove Night Maps
The gamma cheaters ruin night maps, every single night map needs to be foggy so raising gamma hurts the eyes. Make view distance 100 meters MAX at night in the woods, it should emulate fighting in pure darkness aside from star shells, flares on parachutes, explosions and muzzle flash. Ill trade people cheating with gamma for fog that you cant see more than 20, 30, 50 or 100 meters max. Make it reliant on footsteps, objectives and compromising stealth of enemy. Listen to this Vietnam veteran Mike Mah tell you about night combat.WingWalker wrote:

Can we try this out DEVS? Use fog to increase the effect of darkness? Make it a dark fog thats like pitch black darkness which you can only see a a few meters infront of you.

Most night maps are just annoying to play just because you can't tell who is who.
