Regarding new players and login system
Since new steam based login system it seems that players who don't own steam with at least one bought game can't play PR.
Is this going to change?
Are there any work around this that does not include buying random game on Steam, or contacting server admins?
What would the effects on PR community be?

Re: Regarding new players and login system
This is the first day on the new system so we'll have to gather more data over the coming days and evaluate how it goes. We have always had more ideas to improve it further, but first an evaluation period of the current implementation is needed together with feedback from players and servers.

I have to create steam account yesterday because i never use it, and it works fine, my ranking was level 2 instantly.
Just need to set profil public, put name + country on your profil. Go to the launcher> support >calculate profile and you have level 2.
It doesn't need to have an old steam profile, several game or play a lot.
wrong info, to ignore

This is not correct information. You were given level 2 for being a legacy pr player in a dataset that we have level 2 automatically.qs-racer wrote:I have to create steam account yesterday because i never use it, and it works fine, my ranking was level 2 instantly.

Re: Regarding new players and login system
Hey all, I have actually never had an issue with this and in fact never noticed it ... until today:
I have installed PR on a different machine, I was able to use my original account after DE-selecting "retrieve" and going back a screen. So everythiung was fine it seemed.
But when I went to join a server, it said the message about server rank (whcih I never ever noticed before, assumably because i have been playing for years and generally am indeed on white list) After much fiddling and looking at replies on this forum, I wnet to my steam account, which I, like many others, really don't use that much.
On my Steam account, everything IS alread set to "public" as suggested.
upon digging further, i noticed I have zero points according to Steam because I have never given them a credit card. I DO own about 4 Steam games though, they were just bought at places other than the actual Steam store. Still, Steam shows me havinf zero Steam points, which is incredibly frustrating considering its effect for me on PR (possibly)
I say possibly because here's my quandry:
1). I was able to play just fine for the last year even though I just found out Steam says I have zero points. But upon re-installing today in a different machine, i can't get in to servers.
2). I DID in fact follow the directions to update my rank on the support tab, and my rank shows up as "2" ... still can't log in.
I'd looove to gripe about the hoops being too much as others have done LOL
but truth be told, I'm super happy you guys came up with a good methid to weed out what is likely 95% of hackers and griefers.
<3
Still, I'm in a weird spot now, and i'm not sure creating accounts at the different servers and asking to be white-listed is the solution, it is also quite a lot to endure for someone who has been playing since version .5 and i can't even imagine if this issue is going to affect any new blood.
Any ideas about this?
I'm assuming it isn't common if I jsut noticed it today for the very first time.
Thanks all, love youz XD

Can you send a screenshot of the problem you're having, and which server?

Uhm, actually it might be with the exclamation point, try both. In some systems the special character isn't allowed, so i think I'm brain farting with the "L".umop-3p!sdn wrote:Yeah I didn't think it should have anhything to do with it, that's why it's super weird ...

Re: Regarding new players and login system
Screenshots all come out black for some reason ... but it is the same message others have posted about when the system was new stating similar to:AlonTavor wrote:Can you send a screenshot of the problem you're having, and which server?
The server has refused connection, possible reasons:
- You have lost connection to the server
- Your profile doesn't have a high enough [rank] for the server's settings
refer to the SUPPORT tab in the launcher for more information
( sorry for the estimated text, as i keep switching back to get it 100%, the server keeps filling up)
It is on [HOG] and I see LOTS of newb profiles playing right now, as well, i have generally been white-listed there for a while.
Is it possible that if they blocked an IP range, this is now the same message one would get? In the past the message when your IP range was blocked just said the server has rejected connection for a ban/temp ban, and to contact the server admin ( or similar text)
The only things new other than mentioned above are a different CPU, and a different location - so different IP. But I did in fact retrieve my profile just fine.
Thanks for the help.

Re: Regarding new players and login system
FOLLOW UP:
TLDR:
If your info on a server has changed, or you are part of an IP range filter or similar SERVER SIDE list, the SAME message will appear, and it seems that the assumption it has to do with your Account Level will NOT be correct in that case.
Hope this helps someone in the future to realize what ISN'T the issue with their login.
All things seemed to point to it being account level related for me, but it turned out to be that the server had me on a whitelist based on IP, and once it had changed, the message about the Account Level was displayed as a default because it covers more that one possible reason.
Thanks for looking into it Talon.
Peace guys.
PS, please clear me to post in the "Suggestions" Forum
I have some time-tested ideas that I think are very possible, easy to do and many agree are great ideas.
