Yamalia - ideal terrain for infantry forest combat

Post by Boulder »

Recently played a round of Yamalia on the (inf) layer. It made me realise just how perfect this map is for long, interesting firefights with plenty of cover and opportunities to flank. The little dips and holes in the ground let squads inch up metre by metre which increases immersion and makes you feel like you're fighting modern trench warfare 8-) . The dense low trees on the edges of each forest area let players make high risk flanks if they want to, and so you always have to watch them if you're fighting.

The way the dips in the terrain and scattering of trees breaks up line of sight makes each firefight a really cool challenge as you try to find a spot that gives you cover while also letting you see ahead into the trees.

Please when designing new maps remember Yamalia and take lessons from it - how much fun it is to fight in pock-marked terrain like Yamalia has, where you can crawl from cover to cover, risking to pop up and take shots before ducking down again.

I agree, the forest fights on this map are very fun and intense.

Yes, the micro terrain changes everything and brings the immersive experience to depths unimaginable. Therefore, it is of the outmost importance that devs implement micro terrain on ALL maps in which it is possible.

The only map that resembles yamalia in this regard is obviously Route for its micro terrain.

Count how many forest maps could be massively improved by adding more assets and adding micro terrain.
I'm not talking about 2k only.. also Silent Eagle, Hades, Wanda, Shija.. All of these maps needs to be improved in this manner.
