Has been suggested many times before. I suggest to search before suggesting. It would be possible to make but the pure amount of time to make different sounds different statics different vehicles etc would be pure madness.

Thought of, and declined on the basis that it basically involves retexturing every single static and vehicle that's used for the map, along with creating a bunch of new statics (snowy trees etc) and ground textures.

That's a lotta work for a single or a small number of maps, especially when there's so much else that can be worked on that can benefit a large number of maps at once (new vehicles, code etc).

Korengal has a bit of snow, but yeah retexturing is a hard part. But not imposable.

To make it simpler I suggest using a NATO faction versus CATA faction that way all that would need to be done is certain vehicles and models maybe a community mod that could be implemented.

It's still retexturing both faction's soldiers, (or complete new soldier models or at the very least, new kit geometries), creating a convincing set of ground textures, some new statics such as snowdrifts and snow-laden trees and retexturing trees, buildings and roads.

That's before you even add a single vehicle, or look at the need for new effects - like the impact of a bullet into snow/ice, soldier's breath in cold air, etc.

So as Code Red says - no it's not impossible by any means, it's just a large amount of work to do it, if you're going to do it well.

A community group could certainly do it, but for now I can't see anyone on the Dev team doing it when there are other priorities.

Have the DEVs or anyone ever thought about an Arctic / winter map? Opinions?

LOL

Sorry for the NECROPOST...

...but I was reading though some of my older posts
and thought this was funny. Maybe the DEVs now'a'days might also?

... the fact that everyone in this thread thought it was impossible back then seems so funny to me now given how far PR has come with everything, and also with "Winter Ops", as I "suggested"...

... but now realized with Adak, Yamalia, Dover Winter, and others.

Also, are any of the guys in this thread other than me still on PR????

I do not think that we read two different threads, but I am pretty sure that nobody here thought it was impossible, but time hungry project with small rewards (aka few maps at best that can use all advancements for winter maps, which honestly is true).

Still, it is nice that this suggestion over time finally found way into game. Further winter maps are always welcomed.

there used to be a really fun Christmas map pack i remember playing back in 2012. it had 4-5 fun winter themed maps. not sure why none of them ever made it to the base game.

Thanks to WarEagle751 for the Signature pic!

Yeah, it kind of creeped me out too.

I think there is a maximum amount of data the DEVs try to stick too which is why we don't see every map in every update.
