Ras el Masri - Faction Imbalances

Post by Nightingale »

Still my favourite map in the game from an environment standpoint. Also still think it's super one-sided on every single layer... Please consider adding some alternative layers. If not for balance, then at least for some variety.

My suggestions:

AAS STD
IDF vs. China

AAS ALT
Germany vs. MEC

AAS LRG
US Army vs. RUS

INS
China vs. Syrian Rebels
(removal of civis from map)
(give China the same DoD protection boundary that they have in AAS)

Balance was discussed before, care to give a little bit more detailed about one-sidedness? IDF wins too often?

The map leans towards IDF even after all the most recent changes. IDF are able to rush towards the coast with .50 cal humvees and AA and constantly harass or kill trans. IFVs and APCs spawning on the carrier puts CN at a further disadvantage if and when TOWs are built on the coast and this issue is further exacerbated by having 1 of the 2 major English speaking servers allowing for the DOD on amphibious assault maps to be free for all. This in turn means that IFVs transiting from ship to shore can be killed by coastal emplacements or HAT and CAS have less of an impact.

The matter of asset balance was brought up really early and it was a good change to remove the Vulcan M113 but it still leans towards the IDF with two Namers and a Tank. I'm pretty sure this was suggested very early on when the map released but a WZ550 AT + 1 ZBL-08 or the Z9 HJ-8 to replace the current cas could work a bit better for China?

Current INF gameplay is fine as IDF have the better CQB weapons but CH having proper optics to engage at distance works out.

The only thing l will add is regarding the flag layout. Its kinda hard to stop the snowball push once China starts loosing the city you dont have time to set up defensive FOBs as you are pushed.

From my memory there arent any relevant places in the city that act like mini Bastions or Frontline breakers its just a continuous city opposite to maps like Marlin, Beirut or Muttrah where you have significant big roads or buildings that act like a natural Frontline. Im aware this means map redesign not what l intend, maybe reconsider flag positioning or toy around with the flag radious

Yes IDF wins too easily.

Even though China has optics and IDF doesn't, it's my opinion that this isn't even a real advantage for China because all the flags are CQB capzones. IDF still has the INF advantage. Brothers and Bubbly have both given plenty of evidence that assets are also imbalanced for this map.

I think that moving the capzones around should really be considered.

Additionally, on INS, it's way too easy for the Hamas civilians to bog down the Chinese offense. And the Chinese spawnpoint at F5 is being spawn-raped the entire round. But INS is not the focus of my thread so I won't say much more about this.

This last suggestion is purely for variety's sake. It has nothing to do with my complaint of the existing map imbalance.

I think the main reason is simple: The chinese forces get 1 logistics truck and a 10 minute respawn two-crate chopper, whereas the IDF gets 3 logis.

This is a serious disadvantage for the chinese, as the chopper is likely to be used for transport, and will therefore die. It also serves as a very visible marker of fob placement inside a city, whereas a logi can sneakily place a fob.

The only remaining logi gets taken by the mortar squad or is lost during the first 5 minutes. And this effectively means that any Chinese SL has no options to build fobs. The main chopper with its 10 minute respawn will be down most of the time, and any fobs placed using the chopper rapidly become obvious.

The IDF on the other hand always has some way to place fobs, and can start the game with 6 fobs built.

Compare to beirut:

Beirut Rus: 3(!!) choppers, 1 logi, 1 logistics mtlb
Beirut IDF: 1 chopper, 2 logis, 1 logistics M113
