Just discovered Squad. How similar is it to the BF2 mod Project Reality?
Hi guys. I used to play heaps of Project Reality as a teen. It was my favourite game for a very long time. I'm seriously considering buying Squad since I'd love to relive those days. Is it a similar experience? I'd love to get back to my roots as a transport chopper pilot.

Personally, I dont like squad. Not for lack of any content or scope(or emotes). But the shallow and mediocre gameplay, nausea inducing gun mechanics, and overall feeling of being micro managed. You cant pickup kits(not even friendly), you have to ask for permission for vehicles, etc. It's a complete lack of freedom. Which is something I can not stand. The only good squad games I've ever had, have been prearranged before time, with people I know and/or scheduled events. It's hard to hop into a server with randos and have a good time. Let me put it this way; If you already have people to play with, your squad experience will be much better. If you come in alone, it will be miserable.

It's probably just the AI-generated stuff just like the mod said. As for that topic, should have put in off-topic instead.

Toll roads, take me home.

It wasn't, they're just using that excuse as a catch-all to ban people who would talk about another game.dcm wrote:His post was AI generated? But how can they tell?
I would also like to be banned. Thanks.

We have experience. We ban dozens of bots every week.dcm wrote:His post was AI generated? But how can they tell?
Because legitimate questions may indeed appear, perhaps it's a good moment to provide some details.HerrHav0k wrote:It wasn't, they're just using that excuse as a catch-all to ban people who would talk about another game.

Others may have noticed that already but most are probably unaware.
The fact that you see this post, unlike a few hundreds other posts, is actually because this is the first time I did not delete the whole thread after its creator turned out to be a bot. This is partially because a few people already answered the question and if I deleted the thread, they would probably question why it happened. There is also no point in cutting the discussion short.
As for the account which was used to create the thread, there is absolutely no doubt it is not a human. We are working on a better protection against this threat in the future. Now please stay on topic!

You do know there's a whole thread on the forums talking about other games right?HerrHav0k wrote:It wasn't, they're just using that excuse as a catch-all to ban people who would talk about another game.

Funny that you think that just because someone is talking about squad they should be banned it's nothing like that if you take the time to go through the forums. HERE
Aside from that to stay on topic. Squad right now doesn't seem like a good idea, they're already teasing people with monetization in a game that already costs as much as a Triple A game. I'm waiting on the day that they'll have 100 dollars worth of DLC in a paid game. Might aswell just as a patreon system or some kind of subscription instead of dividing the playerbase. Regardless of that in terms of gameplay, Squad does feel lack-luster the combat doesn't feel right even though it LOOKS amazing but looks are not everything in a game. as DCM said it's not a game someone should get into if they don't already have a community to play with compared to PR where you can still hop on with a bunch of randoms and enjoy your day. (MOST TIMES, depending on your playstyle)

genuinely curious, why are there bots that make super mundane posts like this and why are they such an issueSuchar wrote:We have experience. We ban dozens of bots every week.

Are you seriously asking how bots spam ads on forums?dcm wrote:How exactly?

No. I'm curious as to how promoting squad specifically on this forum, makes the bot owners/squad publishers any money. Most players are already aware of squad, and may already own or at the very least played squad during a free weekend.SemlerPDX wrote:Are you seriously asking how bots spam ads on forums?

To stay on topic...
I was all excited about Squad at first, seemed like this community would be evolved and that it would become an evolved extension of PR.
Got on their forums at the start up when they were selling user levels like "Founding Member" or whatever.
The whole thing seemed to fall flat with no enthusiasm or progress forever. When something happened it was ok, but about 1 light year away from the amount of development in Project Reality.
Lost interest.
The original thing that got me on PR was the total lack of realism in VBF2, specifically the 2 shots needed to kill with the Barrett 50 and fat *** reticle of the scope. (funny how spell check on here doesn't know "Reticle"...)

Data usage.PotatoLord wrote:genuinely curious, why are there bots that make super mundane posts like this and why are they such an issue
While 1 or 2 may not use a lot of data, since every post is like not even 1kb... think if it was 1000, this was a problem that I read about Twitter "twitter is being destroyed by people doing Good morning posts" same with Grandmas on whatsapp sending good morning images and downloading it every day on whatsapp or similar
Also if they keep appearing it bloats the forum.

I not sure if this is on topic, but its ironic how the game seens to have restarted its development pace after it became a commercial product by tencent, instead of a Passion project, think they made some 2 updates now with new freature, probably will get Thermals, another faction, etc, soon.WingWalker wrote:To stay on topic...

Re: Just discovered Squad. How similar is it to the BF2 mod Project Reality?
Well, I thought I would give it another try yesterday, it's not bad, definitely not PR and would never replace PR for me. The issue I found with squad is the servers. There are a few servers that have PR-like rules that are enforced and there, the gameplay resembles PR quite nice, but most servers are BF-style servers where each squad plays its own game, not much comms and teamwork.

My 2 cents: Enlisted and Hell let loose are better than Squad. Buying Squad was a worst decision i ever made, my first ever steam purchase, back in 2016. Hindsight is always 20-20.
