Despite it having some hard-to-fix issues, I think the gameplay can be improved a lot by making small Quality of Life changes that will make the experience smoother and, importantly, have no controversy or downside:
UI at game start.
The briefing time is crucial for planning any action. Not being able to place markers and give orders at the beginning (before each squad runs off in its own direction) is damaging to team cohesion and teamwork.
Satellite feed lost.
I don’t know if this BF2 leftover is fixable, but the commander needs to zoom in on the map as much as anyone else, and maybe more.
Squad screen button.
What for everyone else is the squad screen button, for the commander opens the command screen. Squad screen is vital for seeing squad names, player names, status and kits. Currently to get it you have to open the spawn screen (Enter) and then click the “Squad” tab with your mouse.
A separate key for commander is probably too much, but maybe you can make Tab switch between spawn screen and squads screen.
Kit icons on the command screen.
Seeing every squad’s composition on one screen could be more useful, if it showed 8 out of 8 icons, instead of 6.
Or, maybe, completely replacing icons with the squad name / leader name will make that part more informative, and decrease the need for Squad screen button.
Friendly assets and the demolition tool.
Not having emplacements show on the map creates a lot of problems when trying to redeploy them while not knowing where they are or who built them. Any change in that area would be good, ideas may include:
- Show emplacement icons automatically (best), or at least give the ability to mark them manually. Already discussed here.
- When demolishing something with the “detonator” tool, show the tool radius, or remove assets one by one, instead of all at once. When demolishing something, show the message with what has been destroyed.
