im pretty sure they scrapped the xm -8WNxKenwayy wrote:Burst mode works like this in Real world combat --

No one uses it. It's pretty much pointless to have on a rifle, the army is just so crappy at replacing weapon systems it will take forever to change it. The new xm-8 was supposed to have a full auto as well as burst/semi.

When the AK had a 3round burst I never used it, ROF was slow enough you could squeeze off 3 easily.
The M16 is more accurate at long range w/ single shot unless the target is moving then the burst will help.
In CQB you can fire off a whole mag in burst more accurately than the AK and certainly more than the G3.
Correct me if I'm wrong but, real life provides a guide but the HARDCODE is the law in the game.

Bob_Marley wrote:True, but with a fully automatic weapon it is still easy to fire in bursts while retaining the option of full auto for room clearing and such. Of course the ideal solution is a 4 position trigger group like that of various H&K weapons, the Type-89, etc...
Yes, but fast clicks makes the 3 rd burst equivalent to full auto anyways... if you can't clear a room with 3-4 buurrrap buurrrapps then full auto won't save your skin.

i told about this a few months back, but no one seemed to belive me. even though i have the m16 field manual on a cd and it clearly sais it is like this.LiquidSnake wrote:i dont know right but I think I'm not alone when I say, that the M16 burst sux. But this should not be noobieboobie thread so I'll bring you my suggestion
Somewhere I read that the burst mode is nothing else than an automatic mode which fires a maximum of 3 bullets. That means that u can still shoot single bullets (when your gun is in burst mode)... but not more than 3 in a row. I also read that if u shoot once u have only two bullets left for a burst. After you shot those 2 bullets wich were left, a new burst-cycle begins. know what I mean?
I think this would solve the problem of the M16. i sucked so often because i had to switch from burst to single or because i just didnt hit anything with burst on long distances.
I know you hear that phrase every day but i gotta say it... I think this could increase the realism of PR AND increase fun of US-guys.
Umm yea i forgot something: Is that even possible?
Great mod guys keep goin Greetins from Switzerland with cows, cheese and chocolate xD

The only time pulling the trigger on burst mode doesn't fire 3 bullets is when there is an interruption in the firing cycle, such as a mag running out of ammo or a jam. The result is that when the trigger is pulled again, if it remains on burst mode, is that the cycle will continue until the trigger sear is reset. So if you pull the trigger on burst mode, and there is only 1 round left in the mag, when you reload the weapon and pull the trigger again, 2 rounds will fire, then the cycle will reset and it will continue to fire 3 rounds.

1.
2. While world.guns.ru is good, its not perfect. I'd cross reference it with other sources as well.
3. I *believe* that the BF2 engine is restricted to certain rates of fire, so 800 RPM may not be possible.

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

no it actualy fires more like an automatic were you hold the trigger for the full burst.WNxKenwayy wrote:The only time pulling the trigger on burst mode doesn't fire 3 bullets is when there is an interruption in the firing cycle, such as a mag running out of ammo or a jam. ??? Not exactly sure what you are trying to disagree with me on. If you are on burst fire, have a round in the chamber, and at least 2 in the mag, and pull the trigger, the weapon will fire 3 rounds no matter what you do. You can't do single shot fire with burst mode engaged. Mechanicly, I'll admit I'm not sure if its possible or not, but I've never seen or heard of it being done, and we shoot a **** ton in my unit.'[R-CON wrote:Agent Johnson']no it actualy fires more like an automatic were you hold the trigger for the full burst.

you do not have to hold the trigger for a full burst. you squeeze the trigger and let go and 3 rounds will fire. holding it down will do nothing the weapon will fire 3 rounds then stop. your info is wrong.'[R-CON wrote:Agent Johnson']no it actualy fires more like an automatic were you hold the trigger for the full burst.

You mean we'll never have a 16 and a 1/2 round burst in game? DAMN IT!'[R-DEV wrote:duckhunt']I dont think this is worth 4 page thread? its fine to use single shot if you need to, and as far as I know, Bf2 engine only supports 3 types of fire, single burst and automatic. They are as they are now and hardcoded.
