New Class "Radio Operator"

Post by OverwatchX »

I'd like to see PR add a class called Radio Operator OR give the "radio" to one of the existing classes like support or engineer.

What this would do is essentially allow only that radio equipped player to hear all radio comm traffic. Non radio equipped characters would only hear shouted traffic (i.e. those presently ingame which are played when you are close to another player).

The radio operator would/could then relay relevant traffic to his squad or those in close proximity who would hear him say it in shouting mode rather than radio traffic.

I think this would also work well in some of the WW2 mods.

Hmm sounds like an interesting idea.

I was thinking about this also, but as an addition to FH2, as nobody except the guy with the radio on his back could use radio commands in real WW2, but im unsure of how it works in modern scenarios.

I'm sure spec ops teams would have headsets, but i dunno about normal infantry men. If its realistic, implement it!

^ was going to say. headsets are used i think? Not sure but im sure when the iraq invasion was on TV most the americans and british had headsets? could be wrong.

i do like the idea as stated before about close proximity. but rather that if the enemy is close enough youl hear them speaking on the radio. you hear them currently in bf2 but its just anyy old **** thats repeated.

Most troops today do have small handheld sqaud headsets but thats only for the sqaud.

To call in aircraft or tanks etc. they have to use the backpack radio. So if the commands could be made to only handle squad commands it would work. Everyone could talk on the sqaud radio, but only the radio man could call in tanks and arty etc.

One of the problems with BF2 vanilla is when one changes the ENGLISH only VO in the audio options, it changes it even when you are on USMC so the enemy that is nearby shouting what would be arabic or Chinese comes across in English. Kinda stinks. It should, IMHO, only change to English when you are ON a the chinese or MEC. Not a big deal but kinda nearsighted for DICE in terms of immersion. I dunno.

I think all vehicles should have radio comms obviously. But basic infantry probably doesnt have it. Perhaps someone knows for sure. EDIT Ahh...(see above...thanks)

That would be neat for the comm. guy to call in arty. Squad leader should make the commands still, but the comm. guy should recieve all the informative and relay it to the commander, vice versa.

True but...sometime in Autobalance mode you get forced to the MEC or CHINESE mid game then what?

Besides, I'd like to have it be kinda intelligent in design so I wouldnt have to change it every time I play. See my point?

But who is going to want to PLAY that class? It's no fun having to lug around the radio, not to mention how much bigger a target you become.

i don't exactly understand how the radio op guy would work, and it sounds to me, the way the class is being described, is that he would just be a Forward Observer. and sounds like he makes the SL obsolete. Because the real power of the squad leader is being able to ask for supplies, artillery, and UAV from the commander and hte ability to communicate directly with the commander, and if you give all that stuff to a radio op guy, then wont people just want to follow him around?

Na. squad leader sets co-ordinates etc wheras this radio guy would be communications to the commander - no radio guy = no communcation from commander to be passed on to the squad through the squad leader.

also you could give the radio guy some other little cool things like binos or another weapon range. a bit of variety.

people of all kinds play bf2 and im sure this would appeal to allot of people since your not just part of the squad your a key positon in it.

commander gets kills from artillery - you get kill assist points.
