Stormer 30 reconnassiance

Post by CobraPhantom »

Any chance the stormer 30 will be added? Sry if this a repost, search came up empty.
STORMER 30 TRACKED ARMOURED RECONNAISANCE VEHICLE / LIGHT TANK, UNITED KINGDOM

Stormer 30, first launched in 1997, is a highly mobile armoured reconnaissance vehicle and light tank developed by Alvis Vickers Ltd (now BAE Systems Land Systems) of Coventry, UK. Stormer 30 is a new variant of the Stormer family of tracked vehicles and the development was based on proven technology from the Scorpion range of light tanks for operation on any terrain and in any environment. The vehicle is operated by three crew members, the driver, a commander/loader and the gunner.

The Stormer 30 fulfils a variety of military and peacekeeping functions, providing reconnaissance, fire support, escort duties, armour in advance and withdrawal, and support within internal security roles. The fully stabilised HITFIST turret is supplied by Oto Melara and has 30mm cannon and twin TOW missile system providing the capability to fire on the move. The vehicle has tank killing capability and the cannon can defeat light armoured vehicles (LAV) fitted with the highest levels of protection.

Both crew members have a single-piece hatch cover opening at the rear. The gunner has a stabilized day/night sight. The commander has five periscopes for all round observation, and 'eyesafe' range finder and a Racal battlefield surveillance radar. The gunners thermal sight can be monitored by the commander.

Not much information on it, so Im guessing it wasnt used very much, or it was only sold to other country but developed in the UK

EDIT

Developed in 1981, so Im sure the Warrior makes this obsolete, for the UK anyways, while other countries still use it, just taking a stab at it

Thats a nice little vehicle. This could be used by the US, the M113 TOW. No it is not recon but so what.

BTW you said the stormer 30 was designed in 1981 but on the info it clearly says it was developed in 1997

As of now, the Stormer in the UK Army is used in the air-defense role (self-propelled Starstreak HVM). It also forms the basis for the Shielder anti-tank mine-scattering vehicle. Other variants are made by Alvis for foreign military sales, but not many variants of it in UK service.

The correct designation is the M901A3 Improved TOW Vehicle.

The Stormer 30 variant may have been introduced in 1997, but the base Stormer APC and family of vehicles was introduced in 1981.

Yea I figured it was mainly used by foreign militarys due to the fact of being very little info and pics. Thanks a lot Eddie, as always

Don't tell me the M113/M901 it's "nott recon"... I spent a couple years reconnin' my *** off in those things! 8) It's a great vehicle, that's why they are still around today... not nearly as common, but still in use. After using them as "recon vehicles" in a Scout Platoon for so long, once we switched over to HMMWV's we beat the livin' **** out of those poor trucks - tried driving them like M113's... our mechanics HATED us! I'd love to see M113/M901's in PR... sorry to continue this thread hijack!
