On regular audio jack head phones or headsets, its hit or miss if you will still hear sounds from the game. If you accidentally unplug audiojack on your first round after the loading screen it doesn't happen, but further rounds will then make you unable to hear game audio aside from mumble.
With USB headsets it always makes you unable to hear game play if the USB headset input to the computer is disconnected. But its ok if the audio jack input to the headset is unplugged
When this happens, you need to restart your game and its a pain if the servers are full.. Also its a pain if you are doing something very fun.
If we could get a program that restarts game audio so we can hear it once we plug the headset back in, so we don't have to shut down and restart whole game.

1 Man per piece of cover, Move cover to cover. In view of each other to save each other by shooting, distraction, division of enemy attention and ammo. 1 man hit per RPG/tank shell/mortar spread formation full time. Edge of cap zone. Use camouflage, police up each others exposure, no man seen sticking out. Scan aggressively with eyes and ears for anything suspect, even for birds disturbed to fly out of trees

This is more like a feature at this point. BF2 engine cannot handle any changes to Windows audio components while the game is running. Laptops usually detect when analog audio jack is plugged in, which makes them route all sounds from main speakers to the headset. Internally these audio outputs might be different devices, or components of the same device. In either case, changing the output device when the game is running is enough to mess up BF2 audio system.Grump/Gump.45 wrote: 2025-12-03 12:46 On regular audio jack head phones or headsets, its hit or miss if you will still hear sounds from the game. So we can't do this? Just like we can't break the seat limit cap on vehicles due to game engine. Just like you can't have invisible fast ropes from helicopter for a special Black Hawk Down Ramiel event. Different subjects that had solutions unknown to me, I am code illiterate, but somebody will figure it out someday.
