Tournement sign up

Post by ArmedDrunk&Angry »

I looked but could not find a thread on sign ups for the tournement.
I don't have priveleges in the tournement area and can't start a thread to ask there.
I have reached my limit with public servers and the random game play.
When you have 50-75% exp players it's great but even then it's like teaching kindergarten sometimes trying to explain things to people who know it all.
I would like to restrict my playing to more serious games and would like to join in a tournement where I know everyone is playing for keeps.
And as the windshield melts
My tears evaporate
Leaving only charcoal to defend.
Finally I understand the feelings of the few.

It's late but by tommorow i'm sure there will be an answer in detail on how to join.
That's one thing you can always count on here, prompt detailed answers to your questions.

Awesome, thanks for the tip. But I don't think I'll register till I am able to get a team together. So it'll be a while probably.

This is not a clan tournament, the teams are already made, and every two weeks, the two teams face each other in a chosen map. Beforehand though, they think up strats, plan, and coordinate within their squads.

So all I have to do is sign up and I'm put in a team then??

Sry, know that im not replying on the headline, gonna try it anyway.

I have it like that too. Especially after the new patch came out, the noob level has raised dramatically. I don’t know, maybe some of us more serius teamwork players should offer some time to new/other players and take them under our wings for some rounds. You know a kind of tutor in teamwork, communications and tactics.

Maybe a sign up thread, were new players could check out when serius teamwork vet players sign up for this voluntary tutor duty.
Maybe it should be encouraged that new players get at least one tutor round?

Well…just ideas. What do u guys think?

Define irony. A bunch of guys playing PR year after year. A game teaching initiative as the prime mover.
However, in regard to EA, these guys never took the initiative.

That is a good idea MD, i would be happy to lend a hand tutoring once i get my mike up and running.

I also have signed up for tourney, for 3rd time, but 2 failed attempts so looking forwed to my first battle alot, Pub just lack S to S co-ordination - for me the real factor for joining Tourney.

Another way to teach noobs is to wait till all the major squads have formed. Create a new one, with you as SL, check the TAB list for those not in a squad, invite em and talk more over VOIP than you ever had. Be prepared to make comments that would patronise more mature and knowelgeable PR players but for noobs, such comments are vital for them to learn.

VOIP, VOIP only squads are good but they often dont help improve the overall standard of play - fill up to quick, noobs have less chance of joing one, so the majority of better players are grouped together, rather than spread out, sharing info/know how to all.

IT IS the responsiblity of the knoewlegeable PR players to get out their, WELCOME all players adn be willing to spend time, in game, as SL or just as a squad memebr supporting them in all ways possible. - i think a fair few already recognise this but more still need to.

I'm a noob and I think that being tutored by experianced players is a great idea. I want to learn as much about this game as I can and I really enjoy the teamwork aspect of it. Its hard, atleast for me to go on a server and join a squad, mainly because I might screw something up for my squad mates.

They have boot camp in the Military, why not here

I disagree when it comes to the statement that learning under battle is the best approach. Why?

Well, first of all I too think it’s great if vet players, go squad leaders and guide new players. But I don’t think the best way to do this is on a public server, i.e. 64 Player server, where things often go so fast, that u don’t have time to explain why u order this or that.
Of course u could move u noob squad away from the battle, but that’s not fair to the rest of the team. The team will not get any stronger if you move 6 team members away from the battle to conduct i.e. a tactical formation course.

No, the best way in my opinion would be to use a server only for tutor lessons. And a forum thread along with it, where tutors and noobs could sign up for lessons. I my self wouldn’t mind using maybe 1-2 hours now and then to give lessons.

Below is just an example of the idea:

Imagine 3 tutors and 15 new players sign up for i.e. Friday evening, X hours, X-time zone, where the headlines would be as follows:

Map.
Zhanjiang security area

Time.
60 minutes of lessons plus one additional guided Battle: 30 > minutes. Time on each station is 20 minutes.

Lessons.
1. Basic communication inside the squad
2. Basic fire and movement tactics.
3. Basic attack and defence formations (Line, Square, V, X, 1 Up 2 Back and so on.)

Initial spawn points:·
  • Squad 1: Village
  • Squad 2: Bunker
  • Squad 3: Bridge
Stations:
1. Bunker
2. Bridge
3. Village

Lessons:
1. Bunker defence
2. Advancing formations from Bridge flag zone to USMC flag zone
3. Fire and movement in the village streets area

Note: Inside squad communication practice will be an integrated part in all the lessons.

I don't think school-like lessons are the right way to educate players.
You don't keep your "Advancing formations" or something on a normal day on a normal PR server.
Random people in your Squad and everybody is doing what he thinks is best.
Players must be able to react to situations dynamically, and this ability is trained best with learning by doing (=playing).

M.Neilson has the right idea though.
The basics need to be learned in a slower atmosphere. I was on TNT and had viop with the APC gunner and kept telling him we had an enemy APC in front of us but he kept shooting at a distant helo.
The enemy fired and by luck missed us as I popped smoke and rolled backward.
But still he kept shooting at the helo.
Since the US has two rockets, naturally we died and I left the server after a few choice words.
This was in a server with about 7 or 8 people total.

I will still play on pub's and try to pass on info but i'd like to be able to follow better players once and while instead of trying to convince people that AAS is the way the game works and being 2 flags ahead of the objective with half the team is not helping, despite the "tactics" of spawnraping West beach while we are fighting to take the Bridge.

Pretty much. ARRC is US/British and RFAD is MEC/China.

The server is pretty much a carbon copy of GloryHoundz East, so US guys will get good ping and Uk players will get around 100 depending on connection etc etc. Just sign up and read the tournament forums guys.

i dislike gloryhoundz a bit becasue it ends up lagging all the time when we need the server the most.. oh well at least we have one.
