White Phosphorus Grenades

Post by robbo »

Orite lads,

Will we ever get White Phosphorus grenades, you no those cool grenades the civilised worlds equivilant to molotovs (In a way lol). I mean we could use them for room clearing bigger splash damage than a grenade http://www.williambowles.info/iraq/imag ... phosph.jpg leaves guys looking like that. Both Britain and US used it in Iraq and is an effective weapon

e. Capabilities. The average soldier can throw the grenade 30 meters. The grenade has a bursting radius of 35 meters. All friendly personnel within this 35-meter area should be in a covered position to avoid being struck by burning particles. The WP filler burns for about 60 seconds at a temperature of 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit. This intense heat causes the smoke produced by the grenade to rise rapidly, especially in cool climates, making the M34 grenade less desirable for use as a screening agent.

Shouldnt be to hard to model and if it is just use the current smoke grenade...

1) It is not for use as a weapon legally. It is merely for "illumination purposes"

2) the insurgents have molotovs, but they do not burn you down to the bone as completely. Molotovs could not really be considered an inhumane weapon.

WP is really only used to mark targets for aircraft or provide a screen to cover movement. The use of WP (most commonly refered to as willie pee) in Iraq (fallujah) was like 99% of all stories you hear out of Iraq, mostly completely blown out of proportion and misunderstood by the idiotic american media.

id like to this used in a bomber/strike fighter sort of way. the WP would give off heat right, the bomber could see this as those little triangle things on the hud, so he could see the targets and kill them effectivly. referance from Black Hawk Down, when the guy threw a IR reciver for the littlebirds to attack. It would be alot more effective than spotting on the minimap.

Aren't white phosphorous grenades create a white flash and then expel smoke, similar to a flashbang/smoke grenade. I thought they don't cause any dammage.

WP burns when it comes into contact with air, which makes it pretty much impossible to "put out" once it starts burning, same with incidenary grenades. It does generate an intense amount of heat and smoke, which is its primary purpose as a marking device. The heat and smoke are easily picked up by aircraft/tanks/anything with a thermal device.

to clarify, in Bhawk Down, the panel was placed to mark friendly positions to avoid fratricide, not to mark a target.

And since the subject of the kill radius of grenades has been brought up surely there should be a statistical probablility calculated with each grenade detonation for shrapnel wounds and even kills within a larger area... up to 100 yards for fragment penetration...

Grenades should just be more dangerous and not just explosives that kill within 10 yards...

If there's one thing I hated in bf2 it was the nade spamming. I'll do anything in my power to keep it away.
