hmm have the devs considered rapidshare?
since it seems all the downloads are on the blink, just saying that rapis share has a dl speed of about 250kb/s +
only down side is you would have to shop the files into 100mb rared chuncks and if you were to dl it you would have to wait 60 mins between parts unless you use a leacher but its still quite a good alternative imo.

I don't see how that makes it a good alternative?jackal22 wrote:only down side is you would have to shop the files into 100mb rared chuncks and if you were to dl it you would have to wait 60 mins between parts unless you use a leacher but its still quite a good alternative imo.
1.7gb in 100mb files = 17 files. With an hour wait between each, even with incredibly fast internet it would take you 17 hours to download. Requiring you to be available to click 'download' once an hour. And then on top of that need to get the files split and joined back up correctly. So it's not workable at all.
bittorrent is the best way to get large files like this, and failing that there are a lot of ftp and http mirrors with the file.

I still feel bittorrent is the way to go. When .4 came out, I downloaded the whole mod in no more than 40 minutes (thank you seeders). Whenever there is a popular release, the best way usually is through torrent, especially when there are tons of people working on the file.
As long as we have seeders, we shouldn't have any problems downloading anything at a decent rate.

Downthemall is definitely the cat's ***.Dulk wrote:firefox+DTA+direct link= very fasat downloads. dta is a dl add on for firefox and immensly speeds up dl's. I went from an average of 100kb/s to 700kb/s.
I too invariably pull down an average 600kbps on my downloads.
It's so easy to use.

I agree with everyone who disagrees.

the torrent worked great for me, but some people don't understand them or can't get them running right.
Rapid share sucks, espically with the wait between downloads, and there are some better alternatives.
Here is a review on 2 good ones:

rapidshare is useless for free users with transparent proxies, normally those using cable services where an IP is given to 50 people at a time.
Torrents are the best way, but I wish that whoever was releasing them would rar the torrents up into small 20meg segments with a crc checker so that if there are corrupted rars they can be deleted and redownloaded. One single file of that size with any corruption and you have to redownload the entire thing!

BitTorrent uses a built-in integrity checker(SHA-1 hashes), so that is not necessary unless you want to reduce the total file size, but then you would only need one rar or zip file.'[R-PUB wrote:MrD']

In theory, yes. But if you've been using them long enough you'll know that you do get corrupted downloads.

It sounds as if copying the entire game to 1180.56 floppy disks, then sending them to each individual user, would be quicker than rapidshare.
