What the MEC G3s SHOULD look like

Why don't we have this like SOCOM 3 where you can make mod combos and you guys can stop bugging the Devs to start making uber modded weapons? That way, u can customize your own...Who's in?

I'm fairly sure thats unpossible with the BF2 engine, and we're not asking for uber modded weapons. We're asking for a DMR, AR, AR with scope, AR with GL & scope and a SAW for all sides.

because of growing up with lee enfields, martinis, stens, brens, sterling smg's and FAL rifles I moved onto the L85A1 with joy towards it's ease of manouvering, it's fast spotting to accurate shooting time and the larger capacity magazine! It is a shame that effective range is 400m, which is a lot shorter than you can see in a lot of places! you were considered an excellent shot if you could hit stationary half size targets from prone at 6/10 @ 600m and 4/10 @ 800m and could only really miss hitting 10/10 @ 400m if you'd drunk too much the night before and couldn't focus or stop the trembling or wearing a gas mask with no spectacle insert!

If you shoot to wound (5.56mm) then the enemy needs two stretcher bearers, medics, nurses, doctors, hospital ships, recuperation, pensions. This will economically grind down an enemy. Unfortuantely practically all enemies of the west don't look after their injured, consider them expendable and know we will save and cover the costs of keeping them fed and watered in POW camps.

i heard that one too - i actually also thought it was too - problem is, i spoke with so many people and visited so many websites to that topic and most of them said its the bigger wounding factor, some guys from the bundeswehr told me that too - so i´ll stick with my explanation while your´s probably is not false, even though they are a bit contradicting ^^

I had heard for a long time it was the tumbling factor, and that 7.62 rounds often passed right through a target and didn't do as much damage if they didn't hit bone.
I do think however that many of the enemies of the west do care for their wounded though.

The actual G3 marksman variant that the MEC should be using (and Egg has said, they will have) is the G3SG/1, which is basically a G3 with a scope. This is the autosniper from CS. It does have full auto, so hopefully the DEVs don't nerf out this important feature (as they did with the SPR ).

Actually, If you look closely you can see that it has a full auto setting, and it doesn't have the PSG1's doughnut on the bottom of the pistol grip. Not a PSG1 or an MSG90, and most likely not a G3/SG1 because of the long barrel.

Where did that picture come from because that looks like an airsoft Tokyo Marui G3 with a extended outer barrel probley to hold a psg1 inner barrel, a harras bipod, and a cheap 32mm scope.

only reason i would say that is because its a little mismatched and it looks like some one bought a metal body for it and chinced out on the metal grip/selector grouping. (note the crappy Tokyo Marui plastic finish.)

The 5.56 round tends to pass right through the targets also if the round doesn't reach or exceed the optimum velocity (2700 ft/s) upon entry of the target. The round loses that velocity if the target is above a range of... lemme look this up... 100 yards. That is nothing, at least in the world of Marksmanship. This means that almost all engagements that take place in real life combat outside of cities and even some inside the rounds tend to just pass through the target. Sure, the US has developed another heavier round that will fragment (that is what you want) at longer ranges also, but mainly the SF are the ones that use it as i guess it costs more. All in all, the 5.56 round is good for VERY close engagements, while the 7.62 is MUCH better for long range engagements

No, if you read the post, you will see that I said that it tends to pass right through the target under certain circumstances that means that it doesnt always. It works very well when it reaches and hits the target at the fragmentation velocity, otherwise it just goes right no through. That is why the 5.56 round has been disliked by some and loved by others, at long ranges it takes multiple rounds to take a man down (has bad first shot kill tendancies) while the 7.62 can do the same job with hits in the same places in fewer rounds.

i see your point, but at shorter distances, especially in mout, i heard that the 7.62 would punch right through the target because of its weight and speed - whereas the 5.56 would fragment - i never doubted that the 7.62 is more effective in "long" range combat

It needs much better accuracy and damage at long range, worse at short. THen again, with how big the round is, I'm willing ot bet if you hit someone with multiple rounds it will take chunks out if you hit bone, which is almost anywhere in the chest. I dunno, high damage in long range and very good accuracy.

Dunk has a very valid point,
The british when they used the SLR in N ireland discovered this as when they were shooting at the IRA if they missed the bullet (7.62) would pass straight through houses behind and possible (No recorded injurys) injuring if not killing the house owners.
