Why must everything explode?

Post by Ugly Duck »

Heres what I would like to see.
Imagine you take an RPG to the side of your black hawk, now of course you will in all probability be wounded, and the helo will be severely crippled, but you wont be dead yet. You will most likely be spinning out of control, but if your pilot manages to "set" the helicopter down without slamming headlong into a house, then the crash may be survivable. But you would most definately not be 100%, youd be at maybe 25% health, and bleeding. Can you see where Im going? Maybe your in a T-72, and your facing an M1A1. You might aim for the base of the turret, making it very dificult or impossible for them to aim. You might aim for the treads in order to take away its mobility, but the gun would still work. Or you could shoot at the drivers hatch, possibley killing him. IMO it would be much better than the oh I shot you 3 times so now your tank blows up. Thats my idea.

As an engineer it's really annoying when people start saying that you have to be carfeul of tank rounds exploding inside the hull! This however is not true, only the fuel would explode, because the TNT in the tank rounds would just slowly burn. We were having a convo about just immobilised vehicles, and how some tanks can take up to 10 SABOT shots without being "officialy" destroyed. These ideas now are definetly starting to come together from the community, and this is probably one of the best, yet hardest to incorporate into the game engine.

since when do they use Trinitrotoluene in tank shells? that shits like a firecracker, that seems kind of stupid if they actually do use it, i could make better explosives with my farts :P

It's TNT mixed with a catalyst. Kinda like in a MOAB.

no matter how fast you react tnt, its △H is still too low to make a truly massive explosion... Francium is what you want for explosions :P

Depending on the round used and vehicle armor I'd like to occasionally see ammo cook off in a tank. Nothing like the good ol' Roman candle-like effect.

AFAIK, there is some stockpiled in england, quite a bit, and i believe america owns some, its got some killer potential if it can be synthesised though
