Weapon Suggestion

Maybe for Advanced Marksman / Sniper class?

M-14 SOPMOD, i'm told.

That gun just looks so sweet, I need to play with it! And its realistic because that's a true military photo.

Super, that thread was about the M21, which has been retired. I haven't seen a new designation listed for the M14 SDM Rifle, yet. Here's another photo from an official source, the 25th LID (Tropic Lightning).

Let me save and find another host; a lot of people have been having that trouble with .mil sites, but they're usually not in the US. :)

As for other semi-auto rifles, there are several. The immediate successor was the M25, a product improved variant of the M21, developed by 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) in cooperation with the SEALs. It served with both units from about 1988 through the 90s. The 75th Ranger Regiment purchased KAC/Stoner SR-25s for their sniper team observers and still use them, to my knowledge. In the last four years or so the SEALs adopted a variant of the SR-25 Lightweight Match Rifle, the Mk-11, for their 7.62mm NATO semi-automatic sniper weapon. The Marines are also looking at this weapon to replace their in-house assembled M14 Designated Marksman Rifle; not sure if Army Special Operations Command has gotten in on the Mk-11, yet.

When it comes to 5.56mm designated marksman weapons, almost every service and unit seems to have their preferred flavor. The Marines on the East Coast have the SAM-R (Squad Advanced Marksman Rifle), which is a modified M16A4 with a "floating" rail system and a variable power optic. The West Coast Marines just use the M16A4 with the ACOG 4x fixed optic and a bipod in the same role.

USSOCOM has the Mk-12 SPR, but the SEALs and Army SOC units reportedly use slightly different versions of it.

For the regular Army units, a squad designated marksman may carry an M16A4 with ACOG or a modified M4 with a floated 18" barrel, depending on the type of unit (Mechanized [Bradley], Stryker Brigade, Light, Airborne, Air Assault, etc.).

Well it had the M14 SDM too, the second picture is of one or something similar. And since the m14/21/25 and M14 SDM are basically the same rifle I thought we should keep it to one thread.

I think the wider the range of classes and weapons the better. And that is one fine looking weapon.

Well, it'd be nice to know some details, or a summary of the weapon? I don't really know much about it, personally. It's hard for me to judge a weapon from it just looking cool.

Good point, from what I can gain from just looking at it is that the base weapon for this is the military M14, I'll post more info soon.

Sounds good, Tactical. I would agree, it does appear to be a highly upgraded FN M-14. Most likely using 7.62x51mm standard NATO rounds. From what I can observe just from appearence it also seems to use the Picatinny Rail System. Appears to be a 20 round magazine, and a collapisble stock.

All speculation, but that's all I have to go on.

It's an M14, there was a post on this earlier today, the M14 reciever is sunk into a Sage EBR Mark 14 stock... Here's more info...

Wow, nice info in the link. I suspect if the guy in the photo on the forums you've shown outfitted anymore modifcations to the weapon he would be forced to have to use a tripod just to fire the thing.

Either that or you'd see it in the next exspansion after BF2:SF, called, Battlefield 2: Super Weapons of Modern War. Note that all jet fighters in this exspansion WILL include one-mega ton tactical nukes. Also please note the M4 can be equipped with dual M203's that fire 40mm miniature tactical nukes. Hand grenades will get their power increased to that of real life hand grenades! You know that that means! You'll actually be able to kill someone with them! Rather than have to throw the grenade at someones head to try and knock them out!

Heh, just kidding. We can only hope certain companies (no names mentioned) don't see this post and start getting ideas.

Adding too many equipment mods to a weapon is a bad a idea. It increases weight, and sometimes relies too much on technology to work. Thus decreasing reliability in rough terrain and weather.

Gimme a forward grip, folding stock, and just plain old ironsights.

Look at that thing, forward grip, ACOG Reflex, flashlight..not to mention it still has available side rails for use.

Heh, yes, I do. Fabrique Nationale is quite a lovely gun maker as many of you know. they've made some of the greatest weapons of our time, atleast in my opinion.

Can you host the pic on something like photobucket. That site won't allow remote linking.
