PR Storyline

Post by BrokenArrow »

Reading through a few threads ive noticed quite a few people are interested in a storyline for Project Reality. i think that a plausible storyline would be important for this mod, because of the fact that it focuses on realism. i think its important to have actions in the game yeilding realistic results (shooting an enemy in the head drops them, not gives them a headache) and at the same time be able to believe that realisticly (but hopefully not) the battle you are 'fighting' in could actually take place.

If its alright with the Devs id like to post this and have the community comment and if they choose, add to a storyline that could maybe be used for the mod (should there even be one).

Obviously a storyline isnt a primary concern as of right now with the mod tools not even being released yet, but i think it'll be good if for nothing else to get a good storyline going that i could possible write a novel about and make millions of dollars :D .

Who wants to start?

lol last i heard the devs still had decided on whether it was going to be based on a near future conflict or Afghan/ Iraq wars, or some other fictitious present day conflict

I believe there should be somewhat of a storyline to go off of. If the realism is only to make BF2 more realistic, then the storyline would be as mediocre as the quick paragraph in the load screen.

I feel it should be more emersive(sp?) and informative of what the mod is trying to persue, historically. I personally feel the Middle Eastern Coalition and Chinas Peoples Army should be eliminated and replaced with each country as their own. A Middle Eastern Coalition really isnt too realistic. But realism does only go so far in a game so its anyones guess. Its really kind of hard to think of a storyline that sticks with a realistic feel without having a 'coalition' ( US and UK as of now) and Middle East and China as the 'axis' or 'opposition'. Ill wait for a dev to sort this out before I get to indepth of what I actually am trying to say.

well thats why in the original post in this thread that it isnt a primary concern, as in it obviously wont be in the mini mod or even in the first build of the mod, i dont think that trying to sort a storyline out is a bad idea.

well thats fine, they can choose to use or not use ideas that this thread may generate. either way there isnt much harm in hearing ideas.

Yea I know the Devs will come up with something. The advisors are all brillant so Im sure it wouldnt be too hard for them to come up with something great. But the community is here to give suggestions, opinions on such matter. If they already have this determined, they can simply ignore these threads.
But I just feel it should be more, like I said, emersive at least telling a gripping story, historical account, on the loading screen, instead of something that essensially(sp?) this map is called Operation Anaconda and is US vs. Taliban.

i agree, map descriptions should fit INTO the story, not be them.

Once again, having three sides with two fractions in each might be nice, for match and mixing battles;

North korea
China

America
England

MEC
Al Queda / Arabian Resistance Alliance (ARA)

--------------------------------------------------

Letting the story center around the most likely future conflicts within this decade would be great. Everything from having fighter jets bomb Tianamen Square to fighting in the korean DMZ.

id rather it was based entirely on Iraq/Afghan wars, not all that interested in Chineese side of things and wouldnt loose sleep if they werent part of the mod

I'm trying to write a plausible back story for the conflict as we speak.

i got enough of that playing BFV and the fact that you cant walk between most trees which is really annoying

i think it would be great if it was all Iraq Afghan based, as those are the REAL conflicts rite now and this is a Reality mod rite?

very good point, the trees are extremely annoying, but i would like to see jungles in the game but im starting to think that a middle eastern storyline would be more believable as you pointed out.

Adding al queda would be like adding terrorists, and with the times nowadays, if would be very offensive to some, and not many people would want to play as them. The cowardly tactics they use, killing very few soldiers and hundreds, if not thousands of innocent people. Adding them as a faction is like adding them as a military, which would make me sick to my stomach. The ARA would be better.
