Is my computer good for PRM?

Post by Cherni »

Alright I want to know if my computer is good enough to play PRM, do I post my Dx.Diag?
I have played PRM before, I just want to know if I can play everything?
So should I post my Dx.Diag?

Remember you got to have terrain (?) on medium to play custom maps (?).

I have a 6600GT, intelP4 3.2 and 2GBRAM , I run everything on high except shadows and 2x AA, i get around 30fps on MaoMao Valley, which i think is the nastiest mapo.

I went from 1GB of RAM to 2GB and it made a WORLD of difference.

Graphics settings, read this guide:

6600GT will be fine at medium detail at 1024x768. With 1gb of ram you will notice a world of difference. That will probably be enough for you until you upgrade to a newer mainboard, when you will probably need new RAM.
Make sure you have the latest GFX and sound drivers.

As the other guys have stated - RAM is everything.
I run an 'old' XP3200 cpu but I have 2gig of RAM with a 6800GS graphics card. The difference when I went from 1gig of RAM to 2gig was really amazing. I have no problems playing any of the maps and I do not suffer any lag. I leave the game set on everything medium. :-D

Yes i play with a 2.8 Celeron 1gig of Ram and an Ati 9600 graphics card. All settings on low exept the one needed to play Ejod.
And i don t even have lag on al Basrah, exept when it gets crouwded around me. But i still kill everyone in sight.
So a little more RAM and you should be good to go.

yeah, you could probably survive by buying 2 matched 1 gig sticks of pc3200 level ram and selling the current 512meg stick off on ebay to claw back some of the costs.

Admittedly, when I had a barton 2500+ 333mhz cpu, 1 gig pc3200 and an agp 6600gt I couldn't play on low settings without lag and that was with vanilla which goes easier on your machine.

3 maps have been optimised better for the next release, athough I think they need optimising further personally as I can play every other map at highest settings, yet when I come to those 3 maps, i can't, still. But in a couple of days I receive a pci soundcard to eliminate the onboard sound drag on my cpu so i'll see then. If this does drasitcally improve gaming, the advice in future to people like yourself will be to fit 2 gigs of ram AND make sure you have a pci soundcard rather than onboard sound

not found any real user reviews on it, but for the cost its worth a try i guess (since i can't afford some high end x-fi card right now!)

Interesting Mr D - I have never given the sound card any thought! I have always just made do with the onboard AC97.

A report back of your experiences in improved performance after fitting a dedicated card would be most appreciated.

I'm at that stage where to update my pc - just about everything needs chaging. New dual core cpu means new mobo which means new ram and new pci graphics etc etc etc.

Sad to say that the wife, kids mortgage etc means new pc is pretty low down the pecking order of things I shall buy this year! :?

Go 2 gigs of RAM. I did from 1 gig, and it was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I went from "Medium" with annoying lag to "Highest" with rare, minimal lag. 8)

soundcards tend to take a nice load off of the CPU. The X-Fi is possibly the best i've ever had.

But the way you should go is this order

Ram
sound card
videocard
processor

reason being- RAM helps your whole system out performance wise.
sound card is nice and helps take a load off the processor.
some videocards right now have more throughput than a processor today can handle, but budget cards would be fine.
Processor- last ditch if you think you're bottlenecked somewhere.

Last ditch is download WindowsCare and check for bottlenecks.
