I like the idea of a mentor program, rather than a noob* pogrom.

Getting frustrated at the new players? Start a squad and invite the new players in. Act as the father figure and help them out with any questions. Make sure that they understand the importance of communication (VoiP esp) and basically take them through and help them.

It's not too hard, is it? I've done it a few times and everyone has a good time in the end.

* How about we stop calling them noobs and just refer to them as 'new players'? We've got a fairly mature community here, so it should reflect on this.

Noob isn't necassarily a derogatory term. It just means new player. But it's shorter to say and type. It's all in the useage.

Noob = irritating player who doesn't want to, and never will learn to play the game.
Newb = new player who is willing to learn and use teamplay.

Alright, we are getting somewhere. Who wants to start a BigBrother program where we actually help NEW players to, not only the mod, but game in general?

There is so many players out there that I bow in awe, but I think I might manage to take in one or two new folks. Hopefully they are all drunk, but you know what I mean.

I have to say i had one of my best rounds the other night.It had nothing to do with me racking up kills. A new player in his first round of PR joined my squad. There were just 2 of us.He was medic and I was the usual.We were playing Karkand 2 and we were stuck at the middle bridge.He got shot so I took his kit and revived him. He ask if I wanted my kit back and i said no use it.He racked up 12 kills in a row as troops stormed the bridge flag. I would revive if he got shot. He said how much he enjoyed his first experience with the mod. It made my day. So I think there is hope for noobs and newbs.

Well, I'm a n00bzor at PR. I'll be the first to admit it and I can tell you firsthand that a manual will not work. When I see "you must have the manual open for 15 minutes", the thing that immediately goes on in my head is "run PR in a window and surf the Internet for 15 minutes". Really the only way to learn is preparation and tough luck. After my first round at CP Abadan, I quickly learned - don't run in the open. Don't confront vehicles as a class bad at it. Work with your squad, and reload often. Those 40 minutes taught me more than any manual could. (although it helped that in BF2, being in a tight community - BF2S EU - I was used to working with my squad) Thus my suggestion is have "training". Either servers or singleplayer levels a la America's Army, but something to give new players like myself firsthand experience without ticking the pros off.

Many times on other forums, I have seen people say that the PR community is too accepting of newbs, a little too much flaming of certain players, often I do see on the servers these things happening, and i see people calling each other noobs on many rounds.

Some people on the the PR servers actually do think of themselves as "uber-1337" players and will flame for small things.

For example, found this somewhere, and i often see things like this.

Several days ago, I joined a squad of clan members (I like these cause they use VOIP commonly), whos tags I won't divulge. I spawned on the SL who was in a MBT, and who was in the turret. I spawned in the drivers seat, and tried moving a bit toward the flag into a better postion, but suddenly we exploded and the guy in the turret turned out to have tked me. I forgave him, but suddenly was sweared and flamed out on VOIP, with the guy yelling at me. It turned out that he wanted to blow himself up and use the MBT as a jihad vehicle loaded with C4 and SLAMs. I was greetedby the rest of the squad with language a little too vulgar for this forum, and cries of smacktard and noob.
