In-Game Gore and Steep-Slope Sliding

Post by Sandy_Beret »

The mod is great. Great fun. It's a pity that it doesn't get across to the punters just how shocking and terrible war really is, though. Aside from electrodes attached to the testicles for pain simulation, more gore would be a valid part of a reality mod. At least then it would be possible to tell when you needed to use a field dressing, as at the moment they can sometimes be used when unneccessary but with a dribbling pool of blood there would be no doubt. Headshots should be discernible not just with the inability to revive but the large hole in someone's face. Artillery should dismember bodies. Grenades at close range will not likely leave you revivable. Severely wounded legs should leave you unable to do more than crawl until at least seen by a medic...

The sliding down steep rock faces thing - that needs to be tweaked - I have personally slid down steep faces with no injury, technique being the key. Vertical drops of sufficient amount will certainly kill you, but sliding shouldn't be so dangerous.

Just a humble opinion.

Dismemberment is a bit far, you will just get a bunch of kids turning up wanting to play that BF2 gore mod.

To be honest I really don't think it would add all that much for me, during a good game I am already immersed.

Well teamwork, and realistic equipment is the real emphasis here, rather than dismemberments on screen. I can see the value of a bit more blood though.
I would suggest that the "blood puff" animation on hit be continually appearing on those soldiers in-game that are "on their last legs coughing and vision blurring out" that would probably achieve the information needed in a squad to heal them quick.

Either that or play up the voice-acting on the Microphone, scream Medic! if you like. Or like Dr. Rank does, do a bad impression of the commander voic when they shout.. "I need a -medic- here...."

Either that or just do a Terry Thomas impression when playing a British Officer. "I say, do any of you have a band-aid, i'm bleeding a bit here old chap... i say some PLA chap just stole my rifle... that just not cricket.."

:D
lol

the 'gore' in OFP was quite effective - seeing blood covered soldiers in a burning APC was very atmospheric

it's not that dangerous in the game if you know what you are doing. Like you said, technique is the key.

He means that IRL it's not as dangerous as in the game.

and I was talking about the game. It's really not that dangerous if you know how to do it.

"Know how to do it". You mean go prone and slide? That still injures you on a lot of the falls. Or are you talking about this mythical "rappeling" technique I've heard of. If so, then no. I don't know how to do it.

Slide on your rear and brake with your heels, climb down backwards on all fours. If I can climb around a 45 degree roof a nice muddy embankment would be far easier. Of course I enjoy bouldering as a hobby, so I can go up most any terrain you find in game.

well, a muddly slope is going to be a TON harder then a 45 degree roof, shingles just happen to be one of the most grippy things ever, you get a lot more traction on that then you do mud, but your right, climbing out of the water makes NO sense in this game, you start to get out and you cant get up the embankment so your guy just walks in super slow motion

Then there we go. We just need you to get modeled and we are ready.

The gore thing wont happen though, its just not possible with BF2, but with FEAR for example yes. (Although I hear its not very modifiable.)

i think that the gore should be ramped up, what are the limits on the engine. i konw that we cant a blood trail from an open wound but i was wondering because i was on a shotgun ramage today and would it be possible to create spray for all the shotti bullets?

Yeah it would be nice but I agree I think the engine limitations are far too grave to do anything that hardcore.

Would it at least be possible to get the soldier's uniform to change once shot and show obvious red blood soaked patches/splatters (maybe on the soldier's face/skin too)?

Although, in that case it brings up the obvious un-realism, do soldiers really have time to slip into a brand new clean uniform in between shots/revives/healings in the middle of close combat? Kinda unrealistic... so I guess the uniform would have to remain blood soaked / torn up until the soldier dies ? lol Meh... it all sounds a little complicated for nothing imo. :p I think the dev's have better things to focus on atm.
