Project Reality Awarded Mod of the Year Silver Spanner Award

The Black Sand Studios and Project Reality teams would like to thank everyone who voted for Project Reality.

This is a great reflection of the effort Studio team members put into our projects. We also have a large dedicated crew of testers, contributors and moderators who all work as hard as they can for our little gaming community. Our thanks goes out to everyone who has helped us along the way!

A big CONGRATULATIONS goes out to the Point of Existence team for their well deserved Golden Spanner Mod of the Year award. And to the Forgotten Hope team for their runner up award as one of the most anticipated mods of 2006. For the Project Reality folks, as a first time mod team, it's really an honour to be amongst these more seasoned developers working on their second major mod projects.

We are all pleasantly surprised with our "Silver Spanner" for 2006. Thank you!

The Importance of Community
A lot of people might wonder how the heck did these BF2 mods, which have such a small active player base, come out so well in the ModDB awards?

I put it down to YOU the players and community members. While there may be many great mods on other great mod platforms, the "micro communities" that have built up around BF2 mods have become very committed and robust gaming communities.

So when mod developers like us say "hey cast a vote for us if you think we deserve it" we're reaching out to some fantastically dedicated and active gamers.. you!

So a HUGE thanks goes out to all of you who have made the realitymod.com gaming community!

A Request to our Community Members and Players
In order for mods to thrive, we don't need money or awards. We need co-operative parents and families and .. most importantly .. we need an active player base and a vibrant community.

Our latest test build of v0.5 was released yesterday. We have begun moving toward getting the next major update to Project Reality out to our community.

As we have said elsewhere, the next couple of releases of Project Reality will bring significant and fundamental changes to how Project Reality is played. We're all going to be n00bs again as we experiment with new game play dynamics, discover new tactics and fool around with new toys.

With every new release of Project Reality, there's typically an influx of new players trying out the mod. With the Silver Spanner award, there's a chance we'll see even more new players giving Project Reality a try in the coming days and weeks. What usually happens is that new folks try things out.. the play quality dies off a bit, then things start to pick up again as a portion of these new players get the hang of it.

I would like to personally ask every current Project Reality player to do their utmost to help any new players who are trying out the mod.

Because of the steep learning curve and unforgiving nature of Project Reality our gaming community has developed a reputation for being "elitist" (that's 3L337157 for some of you btw). If we're not careful, we may become so leet that there's no competition because people will get turned off of being berated about not having read the 3,000 word player guide.

One personal experience I've had .. I work on the mod .. spend a lot of time on it and have a pretty good idea of how the mechanics work. I've had guys berate me about how I am a clueless twit for sabotaging enemy tanks when we could have stolen them

Please, take a chill pill and remember what it was like when you first joined the Project Reality community. Take a moment to help folks out, point some things out and lend a helping hand.

With v0.5 around the corner and the Silver Spanner award we have a great opportunity to grow the size and quality of our player base. Please help us out with that!

T'anks Again!
Again, many thanks to everyone who voted for us in the ModDB contest! With 80,000 votes in total, and out of 4,000 mods we came in second place. Quite an achievement and the Silver Spanner is just the start of great things to come!

The Project Reality Team.

Very well written. I was wondering why you were taking your time to respond. :)

No release date for 0.5 like you did for the Nov 11 0.4 release. :(

Once again, congratulations PR, POE2 and FH2! :D

We have a couple of serious bugs to sort out still so until those are sorted we can't commit to a specific release date.

Way to go boys!! Personally I was **** sure you guys would pull off a top honour. Of all the famous mods I've played and loved in the past including CS and DC, PR is by far the very finest, and I predict history will reflect this.

The community that you guys build around PR reflects your personal love of the game and the great mod you've built for us. I feel confident speaking for the others; as members of the PR community our patience and generosity towards new players will continue to be a major part of our gaming style.

That's one hell of an achievement. Congrats dev team. And the PR community obviously has very good taste, if I do say so myself.

Bah I say! Bah! POE is good but it's nothing compared to prrm. Congrats on the award team, but I think you deserved the gold hands down. The things you're doing with VBF2 are amazing, keep it up.
Thanks luizinhuu for the find

You guys have so mush more polish and professionalism than any of the other mods, up there with Forgotten Hope in terms of shear beauty. It may not be for everyone, but Project Reality is undoubtedly the best modern combat game available. Thank you Black Sands and of course congrats on the win. What a job.. and much more to come for sure.

What made PoE take the top was it was 99.9% content based. All they had to do was throw in as much junk as they could. Here, amongst the clouds, PR and its team focused on Reality and then content based on that. Its Nilla with a lick of paint.

god. will u shut the f*ck up about this?

PoE won, big deal get over it. They have produced alot of quality work in a small amount of time and deserve to win it. Hell I wish that us at PR could produce work that fast at that quality. If we could v1 would have been done months ago. they have some very skilled guys on there team and have been in the modding buessines much longer than we have.

What they have done may not be what you look for in a mod, but hell they have changed the gameplay alot from vBF2. They have done some awsome tank battles and combined arms maps which are really sweet and that is something you dont get in vBF2.

If you are going to say that POE was just 99.9% content based, hell then DC, EoD, and basicly every mod out there is content based. hell soon enouth you might say PR is aswell.

Better one won :)
They've made 2 mods already and got many really talented devs. They well deserved to win.

PR and PoE aim to different types of players. If you like BF2 you'll love PoE. But if you're more towards operation flashpoint style of gameplay, you're more likely to enjoy PR than BF2.

I wasn't expecting to see any BF2 mods on the top 3. Hopefully it will bring some new faces to BF2 mod scene.
