hmmmm that is rather interesting, alot of people in here in the past have complained about the mini-map/3d map saying it was unrealistic, this is a good solution or idea for one,
as iv said before, i can live without a 3D map or minimap that shows all friendlys position so long as i have a simple map and some sort of compass or directional tool, because no one will convince me that the average soldier doesnt at the very least carry a map and compass

Beck, the average soldier doesnt have a map or compass... j/k.
Back to topic, sounds like a good idea, as you stated, it should help squads stick together and bring about more and better communication with in squads... Also concerning maps, in PR, will the maps show empty vehicles, i dont like that they do in BF2 vanilla, because it helps the enemy alot by letting them know where you got out/got in to a vehicle...
Also, I like that it should be limited to Spec Ops and Squad Leaders, but unless PR incorporates high zoom spotting scopes or rifle scopes, then snipers should also get GPS to help identify friend from foe... Also pilots should get GPS.

The main difference in reality is that you dont get people wandeing off by themselfs so you would never worry about shooting your own troop every now and then.Beckwith wrote:hmmmm that is rather interesting, alot of people in here in the past have complained about the mini-map/3d map saying it was unrealistic, this is a good solution or idea for one,

In BF2 an actual squad working and FOLLOWING commands of a squad leader who KNOWS what hes doing is rare. infact ive never experienced it.
Thats why there is a virtual map to fill in for the squad leader telling everyone where to go and where not to shoot.

Not as common as it would be in BF2 if there was no radar - i dont appreciate comments like that when clearly you dident produce a justified answer.Beckwith wrote:i duno what rock your living under friendly fire is alot more common in real life than one might aprreciateTerribleOne wrote:The main difference in reality is that you dont get people wandeing off by themselfs so you would never worry about shooting your own troop every now and then.

im not entirely sure im getting your point, but from what i gather you feel the mini-map/3Dmap is neccessary because of the lack of organisation in pub play leads to more tks? correct?
i would say that by taking it out you would encourage self awarness, BF42 didnt have a 3D map and i played on alot of servers that took of tags and such, i feel it would make it more realistic, traget recognition would be come as much a factor in pub play as it is (in most cases) on a real battlefield

NO tags for enemy, tags for freindlies from 10 feet away or less (3 meters, whatever)
no 3d map.
Only SL have the map as we know it, everyone else has a map, but it shows nothing (its not even in the right hand cornere of the screen, you have to push M to see it at all)
or maybe average grunts have the map like we know it, but it only shows where they are, and maybe thier squad.

oki didnt read this whole post, i just had to post this thought real quick before it leaves my head. but i would like the letters to be colored. i hate the way is it set up now. the letters are so small it takes me while to read it. So my commander is like "you have guys comming from the West" and im like, hmm..... ok... there's the N.... ok, Never Eat Soggy Waffl- OH ok, squad guys arecoming from THIS way.
the direections should be colored, because an E, looks alot like a W, when you have the moving map on (im actually thinking about taking it off its caused me so much trouble). like the N should be gold, and south could be gold, and west blue, and east red, or something along those lines.
BTW
In BF2 an actual squad working and FOLLOWING commands of a squad leader who KNOWS what hes doing is rare. infact ive never experienced it.
play on a tacticalgamer server, it happens constantly.

Holy hell, I suggested a lot of that in the testers forum yesterday, almost verbatim.Figisaacnewton wrote:NO tags for enemy, tags for freindlies from 10 feet away or less (3 meters, whatever)

Im simply saying that unlike reality unless your a mercinary you dont have the freedom that you have in BF2. For example in war people dont simply run of by themselfs being heros.Beckwith wrote:im not entirely sure im getting your point, but from what i gather you feel the mini-map/3Dmap is neccessary because of the lack of organisation in pub play leads to more tks? correct?

The situation of having random allied soldiers scattered about a map is very common in BF2 and the virtual map helps you identify them.
In reality you have orders to follow and routes to take and areas to secure - not one man armys.
The virtual map is necissary allthough in its current state it is unrealistic which is why i suggested a long time ago there be a map - compass and people plotted on the map one way or another.
Since people cannot be forced to join squads or follow orders in BF2.
