Americans... Marines?
I have a question about this mod. There's lots of talk about having British units... ok... then there's talk about adding in elements to the American side that are not employed by the Marine Corps.
For clarification... is this mod focusing on the Marine Corps for the Americans, or is it adding in an additional service ie. the Army? It it's sticking to the Marines (which I hope) then we need to make sure we're sticking to the realistic mental whether that be a final product by the devs or our suggestions as a community.
Devs... thoughts?

We wish to include service / unit specific maps for different teams. This would include US Army, USMC, USAF and US Navy where appropriate and also different regiments of the RAF, Royal Navy, British Army (ex: Parachute Regiment, Light Infantry, Light Dragoons, etc.) and Royal Marine Commandos where appplicable. For example, an amphibious assault map would have the US Marines/Navy or Royal Marines/Navy representing the force, including their respective vehicles, class titles and individual equipment. A map for an airborne assault might have the 82nd, 173rd, or the 75th Ranger Regiment representing the US team and the Parachute Regiment for the UK.

That would work... I don't want to be forced into using another armed service... I'd much rather be able to choose Marines for each map.TAW_Doedel wrote:Yes, or I assume so... in BF42 I know, each mapped called on specific kits and skins. You simply select which skin set you want (ie, USMC or US Army), and which kits each side will get, in the files of each map.

Doedel was talking about from a mappers perspective, the mapper decides which skin is used in its map, in PR that would dictate which unit or armed service all who play said map have to useTJYoung80234 wrote:That would work... you wont be able to select as a player which unit you are on each map, thats up to the mapper

i think that PR will take car of it, if theres ever a big amphib landing or big push into enemy territory, it should be marines, like the gulf of oman map. if its more of a grinding battle like the stalemate map, youd probably see the bigger US army take over from the marines, since the USMC is more a shoick force.

thats what im saying the units will be map specific, on and Airborne map youll have the US Army 82nd AB or the British Paras, on a wide open desert youll have Army 1st Armored or something, and on an Amphib opp youll have the marines, but it wont be like youll have all three on one map i dont think thats possible

well, i remember hearing that there may be maps with multi team battles, so maybe there could be 2 teams that are allies, say the american marines and the royal marines are two seperate teams that are allies and they are taking on 2 other allied teams, say china and north korea or 2 different branches of one of those nations.

See that I don't much like. If maybe as an option sure... but you should be able to choose. I run a Marine unit for BF2, we're not going to be playing as Army on any map. This game was designed with the Marine Corps in mind... if you guys can make a class choice as an option sure (ie. MoH or Wolfenstein where you could choose the service look, and weapon kit).
The Marine Corps is more than just a shock force. They have all the means to wage war and are ALWAYS the first in (due to not requiring a declaration of war). I'd say make it an option but don't force it onto other people.

well its not saying that the marines arent the first in or that they shouldnt be in the game but theres instances where they wouldnt be there. the mod, as i see it, is designed to incorporate everything that would realistically be on the battlefield, theyre putting in the brits, who as the devs rightly pint out are overlooked alot in games. so are marines. the game was designed with only the marines in it, saying it was designed for them is a little much though, considering there are obvious oversights, many of which youve pointed out. i agree with beckwith, the branch of the military used should be map specific.

I would definitely like to see an instance for this. Marines have waged wars through ALL environments without the help of other services.BrokenArrow wrote:well its not saying that the marines arent the first in or that they shouldnt be in the game but theres instances where they wouldnt be there. the mod,
If they can add two services in one map and have the option between services... I would pray to you all before bed. lol If not...
I asked Frost of the BFE mod if the following can be done:
If forced teams are put into a mod ie. making British fight on Karkand... can there be a server option to turn that off, and remain Marines vs MEC/China on each map?
He said it's possible... if PR does this... and allows an option to turn off forced teams for specific maps... then I'm ALL FOR seeing other services enter into BF2. But, to force players out of a specific service, you're going to run into people like me (who commands a USMC realism unit) that HAVE TO play Marines to hold true to realism.
Plus... I served as a Marine for four years... played every game under the sun with HOPES that one day a Marine game will come out... here I finally see one, and the only two great mods out there are now discussing (or at least the community there is) that teams (services) might be map specific.

i dont see how youd have more than 2 factions on a map everyone thought there would be stock BF2 maps with this i thought they were all dreaming
as far as the server side option if you just gonns switch it back to the default factions for EVERY map why even bother with mods why not just play stock BF2? id like to see variety the more the better IMHO

Because the mod is more than just a different service... I HOPE. It would (I assume) have damage changes, speed changes, fixes to current issues. That's what my boys want... not other units to play.
So, I realize that many other people want variety... sure fine... include that. But also make it an option to turn on/off is my proposal. Make changes to design, and function standard... but make things like what's being discussed here optional. That's ALL I ask.

what do you mean marine realism unit? in bf2? realism is very small in bf2, youve pointed that out yourself. how would a serverside option even work... going between the british and americans would mean the changing of weapons vehicles and skins... is that posible for a serverside change?
again though id go with beck, including more forces will give us more variety which i believe will lead to a better mod.

My unit, the 24th MEU, is based off of the MEU I served with overseas in Iraq. We are militaristic in nature, follow realistic tactics, and rank structures.
We heard about this mod and it's plan to be realistic. Which sounds great. The more and more I see what's being discussed is starting to worry me.
I'm all for adding content. I'm ALL for adding in other services to go with some content. But here we have a perfectly good game (with some things that need tweaking), based on the Marines.
If the mod community wants to make mods... sure have at it. But, there's still some of us that want to play Marine on whatever map comes up.
I want to see a mod like this spread. I mean look at the community backing realism, there's hundreds (if not thousands of players)... this has been the case with all of these games. But the best part of mods that I've come in contact with have given you a choice to turn on and off.
I'd like to see realism... but I'd like to play as a Marine. I don't think that's a lot to ask for really.
