Once saw pictures a guy on another forum posted of an M1A1 in his unit on it's side. Hit a large ditch during night time training and got stuck. Must to have been a lot of fun getting it out of there.

Maybe the mini map should be just that, a map. It would show your location on it, and have your coordinates. It would make communication a key part of the game.

You need to be qualified to drive a humvee. Anybody can go drive it off-road for shits and giggles. You need special training to do the more complex things with it, that's why they are called Tactical Drivers and take BSR's every other week. Training bases, on handling, e.g. contact with other cars, ambush escapes, proficient in all weather/surface types, etc.. etc.. Driving is def. no joke in conflicts.

Yes, but it's different compared to, say, an M1A1 or an F15. You can jump into the drivers seat and drive around easily, whereas in an M1A1, you'll be scratching your head for a few minutes until you figure out what does what. If the F15, you'll be lucky if you don't kill yourself or blow the engines.

In my opion there should be no mini map.....cause unless the soldiers are using the land warrior system(which is still in testing) i highly doubt soldiers in this field of battle had these maps to go on. Such as they dont know if thats a friendly up ahead...this takes more tactics to visually identify what you are bout to shoot, such as it is IRL. all hud should be removed to make this more realy....the only map you should see is when you pull up the big map by pressing M to see where you are going or where you need to go and also objective points should be posted on the map along with the commanders orders

That's not unreasonable. I think it'd be a good idea.

Wait a second. I thought we decided that there would be no minimap a while ago?

This can't be Reality if there is a small map hovering in the sky, directing your path and highlighting the positions of those around you.

Nearly all soldiers had GPS and SATNAV or at least the signals units did.

Take away the mini map, but keep the big map. That way when you take out your map its like taking out your GPS thinger. When I originaly posted I wanted it so NO empty vehicles would show up on the map, only things occupied by friendly forces and your teamates on foot. IRL GPS cant show you empty vehicles, even if they are friendly.

What I was hoping for/proposing is a possible I/O setup like HL2, so you could open up a field laptop or PDA, and see the map ingame...

However I don't know yet if EA/Dice are making the I/O of the engine this advanced...

We'll see about that. It depends on the time period as well. What is most likely is we'll keep the standard "map" setup, and it will be similar to operation flashpoint, where you can open up the map, and you will be listed via your "GPS" where your location is via millitary grid coordinates.
