AN/PEQ for the M4?

Post by Cirap »

I recently heard about this mod, and I think it's gonna be great! I saw the rendered picture of the M4, with the vertical foregrip. I think it would be great if you maybe could put an AN/PEQ-2on the top rail (instead of a Heatshield)
The AN/PEQ-2 Infrared Target Pointer/Illuminator/Aiming Laser has a straight beam of IR energy for aiming, and an adjustable focus IR beam for illuminating. Both sources can be used at the same time. It is powered by 2 "AA" batteries that give it continuous power for 10 hours. The PEQ-2 weighs 7.5 ounces, is 6.4" long, 2.8" wide, and 1.2" high. It is waterproof to 66â$™.

The illuminator is good to 600 meters. The pointer on high power has a range of 5000 meters, and 1000 meters on low power.
It can also be used to designate targets for helicopters and jets, and it looks so good on the M4. It should even be there if it could not be used, since a lot of soldiers in Iraq (and Afghanistan) have them mounted on their M4 and M16 rifles

To be clear, the AN/PEQ is the device on the front, top Rail. the one on the rear top rail is an Acog Reflex sight

Source to that quote: http://www.forcerecon.com/strongmenarmed3.htm

it's about The Marine Corps 1st Force Reconnaissance Company

so I'm pretty sure the MAU (Marine Amphibious Unit) use it, or was it the MEU, which I believe is the marine unit in BF2 (at least on Gulf of Oman)

in the game there are MEUs, but thats not one specific unit, nor is an MAU one specific marine units, those names (i believe) have to do with how they are deployed

ok, thanks for that info.

point is, Marines DO use AN/PEQ-4, hence, it should be in-game.

I know, but they look the same, so it doesn't really matter. And maybe use /shot tags for HUGE pics?

AN/PAQ-4 and/or PEQ-2 are used by USMC and US Army However, since there are not any night maps yet, it would not be of much practical use for a first release.

Also, by designate targets, it just means to show which one to hit. It creates a visible aimpoint (for pilots and gunners and anyone else with NVGs or other capability) directly towards the target that the FAC/FO desires. It does not emit a signal tracked by laser seekers on missiles or artillery rounds; the laser designators used for those are much bigger.

Nail on the head. For reference... MEU (Marine Expeditionary Unit) is a compiled group of attachments. ie. A Batallion Landing Team (BLT), an Aviation Squadron, MSSG (MEU Service and Support Group), as well as various other elements.

The MEU's deploy overseas to areas of operations and stand as a "global 911" response force.

MAU... is an older phrase no longer used, and has been replaced by MEU.

PEQ-2's are used by Marines currently, and work in conjunction with NVG's. As stated above, they serve no purpose in daylight operations.

thats (to my knowledge) what airsoft is all about, spending as much money as you can to make your stuff look as real as possible
