Support gunners

Post by [3rd]Sonders »

I have brought this up before, but that was before 0.5.

I have noticed that the support kit still has 2 drums in total.

This is completly unrealistic, seeing as how i am a real gunner in the canadian army, i get a minimum of 5 drums and 3 belts of 200, for active training, when i went to Afghan, the most i ever got was 17 drums for my C9 (SAW) and 6 belts of 200, and that was going into a extremely hostile area in afghan.

Now im not saying give the support gunner 17 drums, im saying give him at least 4 in total. You guys have really made this kit unatractive.

I was in a 64 man server, completly full, and it was only me and my buddy that was a support gunner, ON THE WHOLE SERVER! I actually asked people on the other team if they had any support gunners, and they said no.

Now your probly going to say, "get ammo from the rifleman", but knowone plays that either! and if i do see a rifleman, he ignores me and i die trying to run up to him, jump in his face, scream in chat, and press the "Ammo Needed" button a million times. I ended up walking to the nearest supply point, which was almost right next to the main base, god knows why, and had to walk all the way back.

Please change this.

I agree, barely anyone plays support at the moment.. but then again it just makes it easier for me to get the kit

and the fact that its a limited kit should make this even more possible

I agree too, the support is an AWESOME weapon but i find myself laying down cover fire and suppressive fire too much and running out of ammo really quickly and find a slow ammo is as hard as finding osama bin laden.

Maybe you guys should make ammo dumps just lying around the map like in ghost recon, it might not be realistic and might stop everyone from using the rifleman kit unless they are chinese and british, but that'll stop the low ammunition problem.

playin albasrah with my 6man clan group with:

1x officer
2x medic
1x grenadier
1x rifleman
1x support (me)

i can tell you that when you come up to a road, and see a technical with a .50 cal gunner on top, the support gunner is the most valuble asset to the squad for lighting that thing up like a christmas tree. got to a crossroad and since i was pointman, went to prone on the corner, started shooting the thing up and told my squad to move, and by the time everyone was across, all the insurgents in that truck were having fun in heaven.

I have to agree though, it saddens me when i look at my bottom right and see a flashing 1 or 0 and think to myself.. this sucks, and then look at my kit functions, and see i only have a knife, saw, smoke, and frag grenade. Maybe something could be added to make it look more "attractive"? but then again i dont want anyone taking me away from my baby.

nah, i wouldnt go as far as put ammo dumps everywhere. Just upping the ammo count is good enough.

PS: it would also be cool if you guys can add a Night image intensification sight (Kite Sight) which is a scope for the C9/SAW, which is not like a sniper scope. It has a mag of 3.4 power.

Yeah, I really could go for some optics on the support weapons. PoE has a scope of about 3-4 magnification with crosshairs and it is one of the greatest weapons I've ever used. Not overpowered, but excellent for laying down support fire.

The MG36 in POE is overpowered but it is awesome. I'll agree, you should be issued at least 4 clips for the support gun. I love the Chinese support rifle but after giving cover fire for only a short time you run outa ammo. The SAW is even worse because it only has 400 rounds and it's ROF is extremely high so you only get about 30 seconds of shooting.

and is it possible to make the bipods on the SAW be retracted when standing and crouching, and be able to detache when prone? cuz it just looks really stupid.

You should have a rifleman in your squad. Go SL and order one of your men to take rifleman if you cannot find a good squad to join.

....??

theres no point then. If your a SL, then you should have the officer kit, and defeats the purpose of this post.

and like i said before, whenever i do run into a rifleman (rare occasion), they ignore me.

I find it extremely difficult to get through the ammo you're given anyway.

Try using the search button, most of the stuff you are asking has been suggested and is not possible. And it's been said, get a rifleman in your squad, go to a hummer, go to a rally point, or go to an APC, I honestly don't understand how people have SUCH a hard time finding ammo in this mod it's everywhere!

Are you telling me you carried 17 drums of 200 rounds? I HAVE to know how you carried all that!

Agreed, which is the reason why everyone should have a rifleman in their squad :)

replying to what you said step by step:

Rifleman: Knowone wants to be rifleman, nothing usefull in the kit.

Hummers: People are using them and wont stop for me to resupply. They are blown up and take a long time to respawn. If there is a hummer that knowone is using, and is not blown up, its at the main base which is WAY to far to travel.

APC: Same as hummer.

My experience: I kept them in the truck.

You can get ammo by standing next to a hummer's wreckage.

There's plenty of riflemen. It's a very usefull kit. Frags, smoke, and unlimited ammo? What's not to love?
