Map briefing community edit

Post by Clypp »

If you wanted to change the briefings here is the place to do it. There are no promises from the devs or mappers that the briefings will change. However, I believe that the best way to get something done is to do it and then submit the finished product. If you make some kick-*** briefings and the devs don't like them you can enter them on the client side.
MAPDESCRIPTION_albasrahAn insurgent uprising of unprecidented scale in Basrah has forced coalition forces to pull out of the city centre. It is now time for the counter attack, it will not be easy as the militia are well established now. To add to this a nearby Iraqi army base was overrun and the remains of an armoured unit has pledged allegiance to the insurgents. It is imperative for the US Marines to regain control of Basrah. The insurgency is a bold force and will not hesitate to directly attack USMC held areas, It is vital for the success of the Marines that they have good defences at all controlled locations. Residents have been long warned of the offensive and so all civilian vehicles are to be considered hostile, actively sought out and destroyed upon visual as a precaution against extra mobility for the rebel fighters and VBIED's.

GAMEMODE_DESCRIPTION_xtractAlBasrahDuring a visit by the Iraqi Security Minister to Basrah, there has been a massive surge in violence by local militia. US Marines have been defending Basrah Palace from a non stop onslaught of insurgent attacks all night. They take the oppurtunity of first light to get the VIP out of the danger zone before the already ferocious battle worsens. The VIP vehicle, a black SUV, will be escorted out of the palace and must RV with a larger escort force at the Checkpoint ouside the city. Only then will the VIP be escorted to the airport where his flight awaits. The USMC must stay close to the SUV at all times and all assets must be used to their full potential.

MAPDESCRIPTION_scAfter Securing Dragon valley the US forces have moved onto their next target: Sunset City. Managing to occupy a gas station, they are preparing for the assault, a pitched battle through the streets of Sunset City to their goal; a PLA military base just north of the city. The PLA forces have been expecting their adversary and have been in preparation all day. Needless to say this is going to be a tough battle that neither side can afford to lose.

MAPDESCRIPTION_hhBritish forces, landing in North Korea's Hamgyong province from the Sea of Japan, battle their way inland to sever the coastal highways that support Chinese PLA 'volunteers' in the theater. Dominating a 60-mile radius with artillery in hardened positions, this particular fortress can not be bypassed. Restrained to an attack corridor to avoid entering friendly supportive fires, one company of Marines approaches a sleepy rice farm while a hardened platoon of North Korean mountain troops review their fire sector cards one last time before the onslaught. Defenders must use their mutually-supportive bunkers to hold back the enemy. Attackers must tear apart the defensive plan as they assault the line.

MAPDESCRIPTION_raidonmoskiyeEarly Morning in the rural area of Moskiye, largely inhabited by peasants and local farmers.

GAMEMODE_DESCRIPTION_xtractMoskiyeA helicopter has crashed outside the village of Moskiye. Locate the pilot near the crash site and escort him to the Extraction Zone for medical evacuation. Local Partisan resistance is expected. Recon reports indicates Insurgents are converging on the crash site.

GAMEMODE_DESCRIPTION_aqabaxtractS2 reports that Insurgent leader Moustaffa Achmed is moving through the region. He is expected to be travelling with a heavily armed convoy. You can identify Achmed by his trademark RED SHEMAGH. Hunt down and capture Moustaffa Achmed.

MAPDESCRIPTION_zsUSMC troops advancing through Chinese mainland are asked to secure this sector and gain control of the bridge over the Zhanjiang River. Satellite scans reveal the presence of a detainment camp where American prisoners could possibly be kept, hence maximum caution is required. PLA forces guarding this site have a tactical advantage over the enemy, being familiar with the soggy terrain, and must hold the position at all costs.

MAPDESCRIPTION_gsTo weaken the enemy supplies, British Special Forces have launched an attack on a well-fortified depot. Under the pressure of losing their supplies, the MEC forces are trying everything to stop the British advance. Should the MEC forces fail, they would lose a critical supply depot that would seriously weaken the MEC forces in the area.

MAPDESCRIPTION_frAfter a recent strike by US forces, a large company of MEC troops is forced to move through the Al Fallujah region. US forces spot the advancing enemy forces and launch a strike in the hopes of holting the MEC push forwards.

GAMEMODE_DESCRIPTION_cqfrThis is a BREAKTHROUGH type of gameplay, USMC must secure the entire region and MEC must defend at all costs. Once the MEC loses a CP it is lost and CANNOT BE RETAKEN!

MAPDESCRIPTION_qrUS forces in China have almost reached the Qwai River. They are now preparing themselves for the final bound towards it, despite the heavy Chinese presence in the area. The area around the Qwai River is of vital strategic importance to both sides. Securing this area will provide the US forces with a foothold that will let them stay in the region indefinitely. The Chinese troops know this, and they prepare themselves to defend the area, thereby possibly preventing further US advancement into mainland China.

MAPDESCRIPTION_gmUSMC forces are attempting to cross the Karun River in an assault on a strategic MEC transport hub. S2 reports that armored Vehicle reinforcements for both sides are in short supply, so we must make the most of the assets at our immediate disposal.

MAPDESCRIPTION_gtAs British forces push deeper into Chinese held territory, they run into stiff resistance in this dense region of jungle. Intelligence reports suggest the train line, which snakes through the area, is being used to ferry supplies and reinforcements to the front lines, thus making it an important strategic target.

PLA troops are deployed to defend the region at all costs, using a series of pill boxes and bunkers, as well as the natural terrain, as their defensive positions, in what will prove to be a tough fight for both sides.

MAPDESCRIPTION_mcAfter the Marine landings at the Gulf of Oman, a large number of MEC retreated along the coast to Muttrah City. It is believed the MEC forces will use this quiet port, so far relatively untouched by the fighting, as a last ditch attempt to keep a hold on the area. As the MEC dig in, elements of the Marine Reaction Force ready themselves aboard a carrier, positioned a few miles out in the bay. With no armour support, the Marines will be relying on infantry tactics and the skill of the marine pilots, to retake this port in a daring amphibious landing, which could deliver a knock out blow to the Middle Eastern Coalition in Oman, once and for all. MAPDESCRIPTION_streetA coalition Blackhawk was shot down a few minutes ago by an Insurgent RPG. A quick reation force has been deployed by the British to secure the downed Pilot, and extract him to safety.

MAPDESCRIPTION_ejoddesertThe fighting draws near to the sand-swept city of Qasr in the Ejod Desert. The city had been totally evacuted several months ago due to the threat of bombings when MEC forces temporarily used the city as a staging ground. Now Qasr comes to life again when it finds itself directly between a resurging MEC army and the battle hardened 5th Marine Division.

MAPDESCRIPTION_jabalImmediately after the war began an unprecedented number of terrorist attacks took place targeting Israels temples and government buildings. The civilian death toll was staggering: 1,541 in only two months. Israel asked for US help in order to track down and eliminate the terrorist cells responsible for the attacks. Intelligence pointed towards a MEC bomb-making factory discovered in the Jabal region (southwest of Eliat) of Israel. The USMC was secretly dispatched to the area, and now must secure the factory and adjacent areas. The MEC group defending the factory is well trained, well armed, and knows that holding the bridge and dam will be vital to protecting their assets. Both sides are well prepared for the engagement that lies ahead, and know that communication and coordination, complemented by superior tactics and leadership is the key to victory.

MAPDESCRIPTION_maoThe loyal troops associated with the fanatic General Liun Han Wu found a hideout in the Mao Valley Area. US Commander Instruction: This is a civil area and the Joint Forces HQ told us to avoid collateral damage. You must deal with having no artillery support and UAV, but Supplys are available, use them to help your troops with graining that area.

MAPDESCRIPTION_kyonganniTwo weeks ago the NKPA wrested control of Kyongan'Ni's vital high-capacity bridgehead from the ROK. Recently overextended into the southwestern plains by our ally's retrograde operations, the NKPA armored companies were drawn into open country and crushed by close air support and armored units of the 3rd MEU. With the collapse of mobile enemy resistance, Marines launch a hasty offensive to exploit the breach. Leading AFVs from the 1st Combat Assault Battalion will be supporting 2/3's Echo Company in their hasty offensive to recapture the bridgehead. Once the crossing is secure, Echo Company is advised to defend-in-place and allow additional MBTs to deploy before pushing on to the local enemy headquarters and garrison.

MAPDESCRIPTION_steelChinese forces are attempting to fortify an important Dam and Powerstation in order to maintain a signifigant Armor Division in the area and ensure control. US forces have established a camp at a nearby farm and have prepared for a full assualt on all Chinese Operations in the area. Prepare for one hell of an Armor Battle!

MAPDESCRIPTION_kark2With the occupation of US forces in southern and northern Karkand the Middle Eastern Coalition has called upon tribes from the mountains to rally together and take back the city. The MEC army fueled by the US occupation of their city has created a complex within the Eastern mountain range of Karkand. The terrain around northern Karkand is desolate. It would be strategic suicide for US forces to make an advance on the MEC mountain fortress. Here US commanders will have to wage the cost and gain of controlling northern Karkand. US and MEC forces will have to devise a strategy to control the river and both sides of the city surrounding it.

MAPDESCRIPTION_airportUsed as a base of operations for MEC air units, Farasan Airport is a growing threat to the region. 3 Para has been tasked with the assault and capture of this vital airbase, but in their way is a contingent of MEC troops ready to defend the air field. The British forces will have to use the element of surprise to their advantage, quickly capturing the airport perimeter before moving onto the main cargo area, disabling the enemy ability to launch air strikes on the surrounding region.

MAPDESCRIPTION_rvBritain is sending special units to take over a Chinese biological weapons factory. Map By Pirelli.

MAPDESCRIPTION_ocWith local supply routes under threat from PLA attack, a unit of British troops is deployed to this sleepy hamlet, in a bid to protect the vital artery of fuel and ammuntion. The determined PLA troops have the upper hand in the form of heavy armour support. With British troops at a loss, they must rely on skill and discpline alone to overcome the odd's and repel the Chinese onslaught.

MAPDESCRIPTION_helmandThe local Taliban population have been mobilised to protect their opium supplies as a British patrol move in to clear out any hostile forces from this furtile reigon in southern afghanistan.

GAMEMODE_DESCRIPTION_helmandxtractA British Merlin Helicopter has crashed in the area. It is unclear wheather it was brought down by hostile fire but UK Forces must rescue the Pilot before the Taliban capture him.

MAPDESCRIPTION_operation_phoneixUSMC forces have seized control of a farm on the outskirts of a small MEC occupied city. US forces must assault and capture the city and its railroad to prevent the shipping of weapons around the country by the MEC forces.

LOADINGSCREEN_MAPDESCRIPTION_gulfofomanA USMC Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) is about to begin a landing on these Persian Gulf beach in the hopes of quickly seizing the nearby MEC airbase.
The stakes are high for both sides. The Marines face possibly being driven into the sea and destroyed. The MEC forces could lose a key airbase and open the door for US forces to take strategic oilfields. Both sides have been using the morning to prepare for a final assault.

Hehe, that was me! :D It's just that the briefings need to be for both sides, and the original one wasn't. But I think it could be improved, too. So go ahead and make one. And don't use the word "area" as often as I did. I just noticed that the other day...

EDIT: I think I'll give Helmand a shot, though:

The Helmand Province in the south of Afghanistan is a fertile area, inhabited mostly by peaceful farmers. It is, however, also home to the last remnants of the Taliban, who have used the income from selling opium grown here to buy arms and recruiting "freedom fighters". Thus, they have grown in both strength and numbers. British high command have noticed this, and the order has been given: neutralize the Insurgent threat before British operations in the area are compromised. Upon recieving word of this, the Taliban insurgents ready themselves to fight for their continued survival.

Why not make it so that it says that the MEC have been supplying terrorists that have attacked Israel, in order to pull Israel into the conflict.

(Which would, of course, give some people an excuse to run around, shouting "GIVE US ISRAELI FACTION! GIVE US ISRAEL! GIVE US ISRAEL!")

MAPDESCRIPTION_qr - After containing the Thai army in southern Thailand the Chinese army has begun moving west toward Myanmar. Following the February 14 Declaration of War against the People's Republic of China, USMC forces previously stationed in Thailand and retreating to Myanmar now have the White House's permission to engage in hostilities with the Chinese. Stopping at the Qwai River the USMC hopes to stall the Chinese advance troops to buy time for the Myanmar troops to fortify their border and for the George Washington Carrier Strike Group to arrive in the Andaman Sea.

MAPDESCRIPTION_gm - US forces are attempting to cross the Karun River in an assault on a strategic MEC transport hub. This is expected to be a pitched battle armor battle and both the US and the MEC have ground attack aircraft and helicopter gunships deployed. If the US takes the battlefield they will have established the most important foothold in Iran in the war so far.

MAPDESCRIPTION_mc - After the Marine landings at the Gulf of Oman, a large number of MEC retreated along the coast to Muttrah City. It is believed the MEC forces will use this quiet port, so far relatively untouched by the fighting, as a last ditch attempt to keep a hold on the area. MAPDESCRIPTION_street - A Coalition Blackhawk has been shot down by an insurgent RPG fire. A quick reaction force has been deployed by the British to rescue the crew and extract them to safety. The number of survivors from the crash is not know. Insurgents have converged on the area in number hoping to ambush the rescue team.

GAMEMODE_DESCRIPTION_xtractStreet - British Forces must fight their way in to the crash site, rescue the pilot, then return to the insertion point.

MAPDESCRIPTION_ca - Labeled as CP Abadan on Coalition maps, the Iranian city of Abadan possesses a vital bridge over the Tigris river. US Forces must seize this bridge and clear the area in order to move from their stronghold of Southern Iraq into the hostile regions of Iran. MEC troops have recently arrived to defend the city and have had little time to construct true hard points. Civilians have totally evacuated the city and Abadan is empty for the second time in 20 years, the first time being due to the Iran-Iraq war.

MAPDESCRIPTION_helmand - There has been a rash of recent suicide attacks on British and Canadian patrols throughout the Helmand province. UAV reconnaissance has tracked several of the bombers to have originated from a rural area of opium farms in the Qala District. Civilians have left the Qala District months ago to the huge Mukhtar refugee camp near Lashkar Gah when the Taliban fighters first arrived. British troops are now sent to the region to root out an unknown number of Taliban fighters and then to demolish their shelter to prevent their return.

GAMEMODE_DESCRIPTION_helmandxtract - A British Merlin Helicopter has crashed in the heart of Taliban controlled countryside. It is unclear whether it was brought down by hostile fire or by equipment failure. The Merlin had been transporting supplies rather than troops at the time of the crash. Garbled radio transmissions from a single survivor have been received from the crash site. British forces have been dispatched to the rescue survivor before the Taliban captures or kills him.

This is all I have done so far. Comments please.

Sure, it is a little too conversational there. Removing it entirely would not work though. Maybe I'll go back to a few minutes ago.

Any more comments KP? Favorites? Not so great ones?

I actually sort of liked them all. Although...the part about demolishing the Taliban's shelter seems a bit unnecessary as that is not an objective in-game.

And what's with the Thai army? We'll probably need a little more background for that. Although I did like the bit with the George Washington carrier group. How about changing it to something about US forces trying to stall the Chinese advance while the US builds up it's forces in the region?

Oh, and the "map by" stuff should be removed and put in the right hand "map pictures" on the loading screen.

Well it appears that the Qwai River is not in China but actually in Thailand near the Myanmar border. Maybe I should make that easier to understand.

China has not invaded large portions of Asia since about the same time.

It does throw people off though because these are "the month after next" type scenarios. I'll remove the empire reference.
