Call it what it is
Project Sniper Spam
I'm sorry to say in the quest for realism you forgot to take into account game balance.
I've just spent an unenjoyable 20 minutes being sniped from every conceivable angle by a opposition made up of almost entirely snipers, not fun and cetainly not 'reality'

What he said lollol...I haven't been a sniper once! work as a team, tell others where shots are coming from and then take him out...That is what they have to do in real life...a trained sniper doesn't need 5 shots to kill someone...hell they shouldn't need 2!
My thought on the matter:
It's a major change in gameplay...it's a bit more risky to run down the middle of the street with guns blazing.
People are already making the adjustment:
It seems that people are realizing that any gun will take someone out rather fast now. From what I've seen people are now taking cover at all chances and moving forward slowly. Which IMO is more realistic.
But I can see where people are thinking it's a snipefest. Move as a squad put a little thought into how you are going to throw yourself out in the open and things will get better lol

Exactly. This is the kind of game I wanted. I totally hate it that game devs play Houdini with the weap balancing, and peeps exploit the that devs weap balancing... and then turn around and say they got skillz. Oh they got skillz alright. They arte skilled exploiters.
The way I see it, real skillz are when ya learn terrain masking as well as weap handling. In mil combat it is not all about mouse finger reflex speeds. lol Make the weaps just react accuracywise like their real world counterparts, and peeps will sooner or later see the light.
And I do agree as well, realism is its own balancing. So far I am pretty impressed. This is how BF 2, or rather a mil combat game should play. Now all I need is my ACOG.

I experienced several times shots hitting me wherever I go. This happened both singleplayer and online. My "soldier" kept saying "ouch" etc as when you get sniped in BF2 vanilla. However - I don't think this was sniping, I think it was a bug cause I moved 360 degrees around structures which should provide cover, I went indoors to stop the shots coming from above - -still getting "hits" - so there was not a likely position at all for the niper to be hiding.
Second reason why I don't think this was actual sniper shots but bugs shooting me: in a realism mod I don't think it should require ~20 shots to kill with a 12.7 mm calibre gun.....right?
I will post this in bug repot thread too, for orders sake - but this might be the experience that made the top poster run away, with curses?

As others said work as a team, or if you want try to counter snipe. Also I can't believe no one else mentioned it use smoke! That's what it's there for.
I like the snipers a lot more now. Especially the svd. That thing in vanilla BF2, I couldn't snipe a thing. I was better off trying to run up to the guy and use it as an automatic rifle.

You could use a script that kicks player when there is over 2 sniper per side for example.
Script to limit snipers: http://landot.org:8080/landot/sniper/document_view

Yeah, I've been hit a few times by snipers, but it was only at the beginning when I wasn't taking as much cover as I should have been. However, upon consulting with my teammates we ended up destroying this sniper who went to the same spot nearly everytime.
A lone sniper can be a powerful enemy, but a squad using tactics to flush him out, distract him, supress him, and so forth is an even more deadly enemy.
Snipers having a slight muzzle flash would help (as they do in real life) to locate them. I have no problems locating them though. My headset does a great job of telling me where the sound is. Plus I've learned to memorize the sniper rifle sounds fairly well.

Look if you walk out in the open then your going to get shot. For info regarding one shot kills. All the guns i have tryed kill instantly if you hit the head. Once again walk in the open and dont play tacticly and your going down with one bullet or 50. up to you.
In reality its like this and thats why many snipers become famous for the amount of kills they have got during war. There victims are people who wernt thinking at the same level as him. Just think, if you were a sniper where would you be - then stay out of view from there. i honestly have hardly been snipered yet (mainly because im a vehicle whore) but thats the best way to avoid them
