And the lord said, "Let there be light" and then came 0.5

Post by Michael_Denmark »

It was really great fun to play Project Reality again yesterday. After a temporary halt on a month or so, I installed and played 0.5 of this great game (sorry EA “modification” of your game) again.

And it was really fun. Why?

Well in short, the 0.5 patch changes the former content into a more team-oriented dynamic. And this new dynamic seems to affect the behaviour of players in general, when it comes to the old conflict between lone wolfs and team wolfs. And it looks like team wolfs won a battle with 0.5. Maybe not the conflict, but an important battle nonetheless.

Furthermore it also seems that there are now more activity on the servers than before 0.5, which in it self indicates that 0.5 has brought more light to Project Reality.

And also the game it self, in technical speaking, runs more smoothly now and all maps are playable. When that’s said, I my self couldn’t play EJOD before 0.5 and I’m also using a graphic card so old that I’ve for some time now have considered to donate it to a museum.

The new Attack And Secure logic (AAS2) really opens op for making tactics if being compared to the previous more linear style of logic (AAS). And that fact alone, a more opened environment, is just more fun for any team and tactical oriented player

Being the commander type of player I am, I decided yesterday to play as commander on EJOD after my first 2 rounds being squad member learning this great map and the new logics embedded in 0.5.

I won a very close fight against a good enemy team with a good commander - so it was really fun. About 80% of my squad leaders followed orders all the time. The last 20% followed orders to a certain degree, and only a single squad leader didn’t after it became obviously that we actually could win the round, which was in the very last stage of the round. Think we had 29 tickets and the enemy had 38.

So, for that first mixed commander and 0.5 experiences on EJOD map alone, thx to the DEV team. You guys really deserve some recognition for the time, energy and work you put into the development of this great game. (“MOD”)

Thx once again.
Define irony. A bunch of guys playing PR year after year. A game teaching initiative as the prime mover.
However, in regard to EA, these guys never took the initiative.

Well the hour long download, coupled with vBF2 things-that-can-not-be-changed (tactics, camping only now it's till you get a weapon set, overall feel) too be quite honest I can't really say whether I like this more than v0.4 the biggest problem is it is still rooted to vanilla so we will still get the tactics from vanilla with a twist. The most annoying thing I've seen about this mod is the fact that everyone just sits by the main CP or an APC waiting to get one of the bloody two sniper rifles we can have...needless to say I'm about to start shooting my own team.

lol michael.

I went with this squad leader who was really annoyed when you got commander, I believe his exact words were 'Oh no, it's Mr. shoutalot again'.

Care to explain (lol)

No. AAS2 needs work. Quite a few maps are now no longer balanced and greatly favor one faction. The opposing faction, no matter how well it does loses about 98% of the time on these maps. Muttrah, Operation Phoenix, Fallujah, that damn map where the GB start at the bottom of a mountain and must fight up it against the PLA, and quite a few others. A handful of little annoying bugs made it through. Not being able to shoot through fences for one. Some Chinese weapon animations seem incomplete and sloppy. I am puzzled by the laggy feeling by a lot of maps and disconnections. A patched .5 would be great.

.5 polished up a lot of rough spots that .4 had, but brought along some of its own baggage.

Thank you Michael_Denmark, we need more players like you.

as to jedi mushroom, i think your squad leader probably is retarded. A commander who talks is infinitely beter than a commander who is just trying to get a couple kills with artillery. Making a plan and following it through is what a commander is all about.

I love this MOD. I play Vanilla with my clan but we all get pissed of with the twelve year olds that hog the planes and do buggar all else.

This MOD is about boots on the ground with CAS. Favorite teamplay was a few nights ago (can't remember the map), helilift in, take the flag then heli extraction, it worked great. We took all the flags whilst the Noobs were still working out how to drive the APC's......

I'm definately converted to this MOD.

Thanks PR........

Im going church on Sunday, i will ask them this question and see how long it takes for them to perform an exorcism on me :p (btw if you dont understand what that means then : It means that i am possessed by PR!!)

And yes, apart from some lag issues (i am now running PR on all low cause of lag) 0.5 has made PR so fun to play that i spent my friday night at Church with my friends :p I was telling them about PR and how cool it was.

Btw, it really has made it more fun :) Car bombings rule now more than ever!!! people shouldnt complain if they are insurgeants all the time!!

Anthony Lloyd, himself a former soldier in the British army and a Northern Ireland and Gulf War veteran:
"The men inside (the APC) might have been UN but they were playing by a completely different set of rules. They were Swedes; in terms of individual intelligence, integrity and single-mindedness I was to find them among the most impressive soldiers I had ever encountered. In Vares their moment had come."

Dev's done good, only 3 things aggravate me.

Officer kit timer - fixed
Set spawn point time - fixed
prone divers - unfixed.

Everything else is grand, be proud devs.

Yes, this was the revival of PR I needed. Me and my friend quit, not only cause we had less time to play, but because the game was still pretty close to vanilla in .4. Plus, it would usually be either me or my friend as SL, thus we couldn't enter firefights as much. Now, suppression is actually useful. People are more willing to listen to orders, over VOIP, etc. I've seen more overall teamwork, not just within squads(or maybe cause my squad was a pick up, while the other two were clans hehe). For instance, one group would flank while the other walked straight into the firefight, with last group as either defense, or cutting off reinforcements. I really wish I could play tourny again, but I don't have the time.

Plus, I just love the M14, rally points, etc.

PS - Coincidently, I ran out of electricity for 24+ hours yesterday/daybefore/lil today. SO LET THERE BE LIGHT WOHASODIHFLISEHLSDHNAGLIHSDG

PPS - I don't always follow the commander's orders, especially if I feel mine is right/better( =D ). But if nothing big is going on, I follow it. What really grinds my gears though, is when they keep telling me to attack one point. If it didn't work the first 5 times, I'm not gonna charge straight in again. Like I have a move order to flank it, but they want to change it to attack or whatever. Then they tell me I'm a *********. Though that's realism for you, the COs want something done, but you want your men to survive, so you gotta choose between risk, and pwning with the sitrep you have.
