New to the mod, need some help:

Post by Bluebarron »

Hey,

Alright so I was able to get the mod working for a few minutes and I can tell you im hooked just from those few minutes.

However,

It was running fine until I got out into the field a ways then it was real choppy... I am going to try to put down the graphics to fix this but perhaps it is something else. Anyways I will give me specs here in a sec and if someone has suggested settings I would appreciate it.

Also, once I did put down my graphics, I could not join any games. They all said I could not connect. Are their ports that need to be open for this mod specifically?

Can I launch the mod somehow with out launching BF2 first?

Thanks everyone, look forward to wasting away my life on this game

SPECS:

Core Duo 2 6700
2gb DDR2 800
ATI x1900xtx (x2) running crossfire
Windows Vista 32
X-fi Elite sound card
Raptor 150gb

Display: 46inch LCD 1080p tv

Alright, hopefully someone can give me a good setting template with that.

You should be able to launch the mod directly by using the PR icon on the desktop that should have been added at install.

I has some graphics trouble as well and lowered by texture resolutions - made a big difference. Can't imagine why you couldn't connect after changing settings...

I'm wondering if Vista might be causing problems. How has vBF2 been working for you. It looks like you have a very good system, but with Vista being so new any many drivers still in beta stage, I'm wondering if it's an OS combatilbility issue.

I dont know if this will have any effect on your PC but i was finding at the beginning i was getting a lot of unknown crashes and problems, after a lot of digging i found out that EA apparently dont code for dual core PC's. I dont know if its true but the solution i found to my problems was to launch the game as normal but before it actually gets to the game so when its loading and your still on windows desktop do this quickly

Ctrl + Alt + Delete all at the same time, then when the thingy comes up go to processes, scroll down to BF2.exe right click, go to Set Affinity then deselect CPU 1 so that only CPU 0 has a tick. Exit the Task Manager and if your fast enough the game will begin strait away,

If your halfway through the pprocess and the game begins its not biggy just punch Alt and Tab and it will switch back and complete.

Thanks guys

I got it running somehow. But I still dont have that icon, and I cant find it in the folder to put it on the desktop. Anyone know where I might be able to locate it without a restall?

copy your BF2 short cut, on your copied version right click, rename it to "Project Reality". then right click on it again, properties, a window will pop up and you will see a "target" box with the path of BF2 in there. select all thats in there and delete it, then paste this over the top

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1

then go to the "change icon" button on the bottom and browse to: C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\readme\icons

where you will find the "pr" icon and select that.

then click ok, and your new shortcut should work
