Serious memory leaks on AL BASRAH or something other.
Just got done playing the 32 player map version of Basrah, and everything was running smooth until these what I think are memory leaks started kicking in. Once and a while during play there would be random memory leaks and cause map lag for me. Often times when it reached the peak, the map lag would not stop and I was stuck in .01 fps time. Sometimes it could be fixed by exiting back to main menu which would take way too long, then waiting in main menu, and then going back in game. Unfortunately this would not always work and I would have to exit the game and rejoin.
Please fix the memory leaks on this map, I can play it all fine and smooth until my memory reaches its limits. I can't afford to upgrade to 2 gig yet either.

My screen has been getting white triangle artifacts fluttering on this particular map and player number, minimap and waypoints disappearing, clickable "suicide" and "done" tabs with garbled letters, plus tonight my screen blacked out about 4 times.

LOL a python memory leak? ... it has automated memory management for a reason and as far as I know thats what all of the coding (by modders) for BF2 is done in. Although I guess its possible to have a memory leak by a loose definition if you don't delete your references.
There are other server side problems that are probably causing the lag for you which should be fixed this week. As for the visual artifacts, I have no clue.

I have had similar things happen, it was when I would look at certain objects. I also experience the map lag for no apparent reason.
I hope the server side patch fixes it.

Yup, just had a fellow player tell me he also had similar things happening. He would get disconnected about 15-20 min after joining, and before disconnecting his game would freeze up for a few seconds.
He has a high end computer, 2gb, 8800GTX etc... I assume he runs on mostly high settings. So, what kind of computer you have doesn't seem to be the problem since I see more and more people getting this problem. I do hope the serverside patch fixes it too.

On high gfx settings the sand bunkers look like there made of liquid oh and same with some of the low stone walls..
sa this at a friend and he pointed out that this was the first time he saw that could be just a rare bug but still scary scary

Yes, but the intervals between the game freezes become shorter and shorter as time goes on, and if I don't get disconnected from the server after the first freeze, then eventually it becomes 5 second freezes with intervals of 1 second between them making it unplayable. Which is why I think it's a memory leak because it keeps getting worse and worse as continued play is issued.'[R-DEV wrote:duckhunt']the maps about as performance efficient as its gonna get sorry.
when you say memory leak do you mean smooth fps but screen freezez for like 5 seconds. i get that sometimes.

I've gotten similar effects in Al Basrah - play is decent/smooth for the first half hour, then it degrades into more and more choppiness (what seems like lag) until it's unplayable.
I would've written it off as simple lag but it seems to be the same issue (starting out OK then getting laggier/choppier as the game goes on) so I thought I'd report my similar experience...

Yea me 2, alot of strange graphics artifacts, and flickering, only on this map though.'[R-PUB wrote:MrD']My screen has been getting white triangle artifacts fluttering on this particular map and player number, minimap and waypoints disappearing, clickable "suicide" and "done" tabs with garbled letters, plus tonight my screen blacked out about 4 times.
Also this map sometimes laggs like crazy for me out of nowhere.
The it will just kick me to desktop, after a lengthy freeze, and skipping of audio over and over again
Please note once again, it is only with this map, none of the others.

There're no memory leaks. We are aware that there're performance optimizations to be made (mainly server side) because of some overhead that we created by mistake. Those optimizations and fixes are being worked on.Cyber-Couch wrote:Just got done playing the 32 player map version of Basrah, and everything was running smooth until these what I think are memory leaks started kicking in. On the other hand, big maps need more resources and we can't work miracles if your particular system can't handle some "heavier" maps. If you don't have enough memory, your system will start sending content into the Page File, and it will slow down to a crawl, depending on how much is sent.
You should, at least, run it with 1.5GB of RAM. Also, the more players there're on a server, the heavier it will get for you as well. Try joining a less crowded server.
