Low Graphic Settings = Advantage
My computer isn't the greatest. I prefer performance over quality, so a bunch of my settings are at the lowest.
This provides me with an advantage over other players. Bushes don't render at long ranges, but your body does.
Shadows don't appear in some places, so you think you're hidden. You're not.
This has probably been discussed before, but I want to see current opinions on this.
Also, the MR-444 pistol ironsights are VERY off-centre. On my screen, the iron sights are 2 centimetres below the centre of the screen.

it has it´s advantages and disadvantages (no shadows=disadvantage)
but having played on a high-end machine (not mine, mines actually really bad) i´ve got to say, it´s just more fun with good looking graphics^^

Yes I would agree that you have the advantage in most ways other than having shadows on. Last night I secured a flag and was about to leave the area for the ext flag, when I saw a shadow on the top floor of the construction site, which looks Chinese (I was American), so I went up there and killed him.
So my advice, is put on shadows to full if this is posibl for you.

Project Reality IS about killing.
You have squads to kill more effectively, requesting kits to balance the killing, new vehicles to kill with, new weapons to kill with. Killing wins the game.
Killing is fun.
Anyways, if you read my posts, you would know that I SEE shadows of other players, shadows of BUILDINGS aren't there, so I can SEE player when they think they are hidden in the shadow of buildings.

Bushes and grass don't render much beyond 70 to 90 yards away, so that's not really an advantage. Not having shadow can sometimes be a disadvantage. I've gotten kills because I could see the shadow of someone above me on a building and just tossed up a nade.

Anyways to the topic.. I ain't got that great of a system either, and run straight lows.. Except for Terrain and Texture's, which are on medium. I think having them on low gives me an advantage as a sniper, because I know where exactly I can hide, and whether or not the enemy can see me. Over the time I've learned what disappears and at what range and on what performance settings. You say unfair advantage? I say your loss not mine. It's EA's kind way of saying oo you get to look at the perty graphics, but you don't get to see the guys hiding inside of them.. But you get to look at ugly grass and surroundings but you can see people and kill people..

I have played on all low and on all high. and I don't care about stuff not rendering and bright rooms, the game just looks so damn good on high settings and if that puts me at a little disadantage then so be it.
Plus I think most people use the low settings thing as an excuse for not being the best player

I die because I have a sh*tty 128m card.
I remember people saying that about the jungle map in .32 and dropped my settings and saw no advantage.
Since .4 I am also all low except textures and texture filtering and shadows( all med ) and I don't think it provides that much advantage, and compared with the lag I get because of the card and the 1G of RAM it's no advantage to have a low performing GPU.

First off the low settings (I also play on) indeed offer advantages and almost equal disadvantages.
Shadows can be both advantage and disadvantage.
Effect on low mean you will not see your tank shell land if you shoot far. A huge disadvantage.
Then lower settings= worse pc's= more lag often because your pc is struggling.
In my experience, on any fps, I get more kills on a high end machine then on a low end.
One problem I had on PR 0.5, which is the reason I am replying here, is the sound of the chopper revving up.
To my dismay, the reason I found it hard to know when the chopper was revved up, was that there is not a sound added on low sound quality that lets you hear the engine sounds change. so there is NO WAY that anyone with low sound settings can know when to take off. Not only is it an unfair disadvantage, but is very irritating.
This forced my to turn up yet another setting, getting me down to 20-30 fps on average.
Wouldn't think that is so hard to fix *crosses fingers*.

If I should choose between some advantage with ugly textures and beautiful graphic (which really enhances atmosphere of any game) I choose the graphic.

There is a difference between static and dynamic shadows. Turning off the static shadow map cast by buildings and trees, which is prerendered at map creation, is a clear advantage. Leaving the the dynamic shadows cast by players on is also an advantage. Don't know if it is two different options in the menu, but i guess it is. Disabling the shadow map is not an option for me, because the game looks like **** then.
I would say marking the center of your screen and shooting from the hip is also an advantage.

I play with all settings on High. Dynamic lighting and shadows are at high as well. With X2 Anti-Aliasing. Its prety easy to pick off targets from a range and identify them and it looks wonderfull to look at
Like Mao Valley for instance, you cant really tell who is beyond the distance woods because the textures all blend together so easily. Wish there was a way to push back the fog of war even further. So yes, it is a great advantage to have a high end computer that wont lag you up in heavy firefights.
