Colourful Texture Problems...
When loading a map, I assume that textures and other things are being decompressed. It sometimes goes awry. I ended up tonight with a pinstriped m16.

I have seen the same thing once when the whole carrier had such a texture. Everything else was ok and I played for a few more hours. When another map carrier was loaded everything was normal so I think it happens only very occasionally.

I quite often get the sand bag texture turning metallic (as on most bunkers) and the small stone wall texture (as mainly seen on EJOD) turning into a glass effect as you look at it as you move.
It's not always like this though which is weird. I'm yet to work out what could be causing it.

I get the metallic/reflection effect on stone walls a lot too but I can't think how best to try and remedy this (XP/FX7900GT/93.71 drivers/dx 9.0c). I thought it was just my machine, since noone else I've asked has had the same problem..:iGi:.U.G.H. wrote:I quite often get the sand bag texture turning metallic (as on most bunkers) and the small stone wall texture (as mainly seen on EJOD) turning into a glass effect as you look at it as you move.

Clarification required for ticket #19820417
Server-side problem? How can this be? I don't know EXACTLY how the BF2 client works, but as far as I know all textures & sounds are client-side data. I do not say this based on speculation, but rather the server.zip files for each level and the mod do not contain any textures or sounds.'[R-MOD wrote:Thunder']AC3421 posted the answer just before you![]()
Of course, if the textures were loaded from the server, then we could expect *slight* delays loading a level...

Do you not look at the pieces of data a server loads when you join?? The yellow letters above the loading bar when joinging a server say "loading textures" "lighting sources" "other server jargon" etc. It IS server side.

I get the same thing even in single player, low, med and high settings!!!
so it's not server problems.
This wouldn't mean its not the server just because you get it on all video settings.
If your talking about the pin striped thing, then you got what I said mixed up. I was talking about the shiny sandbags/stones texture problem are caused from server not loading there textures correctly. Its not that big of a deal really.

- The "server" is not loading stuff in the loading screen - that is the BF2 client loading game data.
- If all the 100's of MB of texture files were loaded from the server then it would be CRAZY slow to load a map... Al Basrah for example chews all 2GB of my RAM + a good chunk of my 5GB swap file. So you are saying this is being loaded over the Internet from whatever server I connect to? I think not.
- I actually have done some mod work so I know this: The BF2 dedicated server loads only what data it needs from several server_*.zip files . These files contain *NO* textures. Feel free to check this for yourself.
