Direct x10 and Project Reality

Post by lost »

I think now because we are coming to the next generation, in gaming tecnology, and gaming alone, it would be wise, to bring out a whole new MOD specially equipped and designed to handle direct x 10 graphics. I am a owner of a 8800gtx myself and to keep Project Reality moving forward, suggesting doing 0.7 mod as a direct x 10 graphics intense mod, still keeping the level of game play and tactical relism, but catering for some of those owners, like myself who would like to move onto the next generation of graphics.

What do you mean exactly? THe bf2 engine will still be the same, i mean unless you change the source code there isn't much you could do to it except have extremely high detailed models.

If I'm not mistaken, the BF2 engine is made for Direct X 9.0c. The mod uses the BF2 engine so it can only use Direct X 9.0c. In order to make it use Direct X 10, it would need a completely new engine, and then it wouldn't be a mod. It would be its own separate game.

Would that not essentially waste absolutely every single thing the devs have done? :D

This thread is going nowhere unless PR gets an entirely new engine based on DX 10 it will still be running on DX 9. Therefore lock this please Mods.

I'm not going to go out and buy Vista so I can have Direct X10.

Direct X is always back compatible so BF2 will run just fine if you upgrade to a DX10 card and get vista with DX10.

One word: EA...the n00bs at EA should hurry the fuck up and stop making booster packs for BF2142 their 500 people populated game and make a patch for BF2 and make it so it will run DX 10 and vista as smoothly as possible.

I am sorry, but it's funny when people spend a lot of $$$ on hardware and then have absolutely no idea what it is used for. Marketing at it's best I imagine...

Marketing at it's best.

This game (BF2) isn't worth having on DirectX10.

All I can think off are what games will be like in the future and by that I mean 40 - 50 years.

BF2 is a DX9 engine game. I doubt EA will upgrade it to DX10. As a result PR will remain a DX9 game on the BF platform.

Hehe, well said.

And yeah, i think only 10-15% of our community is even capable of running everything on high, so going to DX10 (if it was even possible, it's not even released yet as far as I know, they only have DX9 something something for vista at the moment) would mean we loose 85% of our players haha.

BF2 runs fine on Vista already. Any D3D10 card will be able to work with it as well since it's backwards compatible with D3D9.

While D3D10 has a lot of neat features from a developer's standpoint, I don't think consumers are going to see many changes in computer graphics....

Isn't having a DirectX10 card supposed to run a DirectX9 game better than a DirectX9 card? (taking aside the power oof the card)

why buy such advanced cards, the games right now are so far beind the cards, by the time games catch up with the cards there will probably be some new typ of something or other and the card wont run well with it and you will have to go out and buy another new card.
