A few suggestions on ingame effects
I got to thinking this game has some great bullet hit effects in it and also some killer tank shell features. But it's still lacking in custom effect department:
1. Tank shells should kick up large plooms of dust when they hit the ground or anything for that matter. Same goes for if they hit metal these are tank shells there should be huge sparks that happen when tanks are hit by other tanks.
2. At rockets are good as is, but agian they are lacking good hit effects when it comes to them hitting other vehicles. I mean the dust cloud is nice and all but it still lacks that authentic look to it.
3. Bullet hit effects on metal need to be changed because there is no way a bullet would make big sparks like they do in BF2.
4. As for Vehicle explosions these are vary lacking in the looks department. If you need a refrence look at mods like FH for BF1942 they had some of the best ingame effects ever. I would like much more detail on explsions for vehicles.
5. The buring hulks of tanks and vehicles could use taller coloms of smoke, and the fire should not just be on the top but all around it. It would add to the chaos of battle to run up to a blowen up HMMWV and see it completely on fire and not just a little bit on the top of the vehicle.

I don't think that this would cause any lag, because the servers wouldn't be responsible for the calculations.
Obviously the more specialFX you introduce into into a game the more of a load it puts on the end users computer, but effects can also be turned off. I like this guys suggestions a lot.
My input on the subject would be to introduce (more if any?) fire into the explosions. Most if not all of the explosions in my experience seem to have just dirt, and fragments. In a real life explosion there is a fireball, and that's why people who are involved with explosions often suffer burns as well. I don't know if the BF2 engine is capable of supporting this, but it would be a real shame to not be able to add it.

Things should kick up more dust when it impacts on them. I'm talking mainly about .50 cal machine guns and anything that doesn't fire an explosive round. It would add to it, i think the bullet hitting dirt effects could be made better - probably at the expense of framerates though.

A10 - note the effects are different when hitting the ground and hitting a tank - whereas in PR it's sparks even if it hits dirt

P.S. You know that rubble sound when a building is destroyed in Helmand? More of that for everything!!!

Personally I do not want to se a Hummwe blow up in a strange way when the only thing that would blow up (except for ammo inside) is the fuel tank.... ofcourse i would like to see better fire effects on the wrecks.... but please dont make this project hollywood...

You are absolutely right, hand grenades do make small black clouds. What about the air strikes, C4, and IED's though? Are you telling me that those huge explosions are not going to have a fireball associated with them? Also, who said anything about turning this into Project Hollywood, I believe that this is Project Reality. In reality, last time I checked large explosions had fire and massive amounts of heat. That was all I was trying to add.Gyberg wrote:hope you dont want hand grenades make movie explosions and stuff... Hand grenades makes small black clouds... nothing more...

Take a look at those video's that were posted. Those are what real explosions look like.

yeah Im sorry.... just got scared... and I wanted to check....
Thought you were suggesting some kind o napalm effect...
I agree though that the impact of bombs, AT rounds etc should be more "effectful"
Here is a movie where they fire AT4s and it shows the impact.... They also fire a 40mm autocannon mounted on a CV9040 and a 20mm autocannon mounted on a PBV302...
