How to land in PR?

Post by [-CT-] Moncai »

I find myself in a littlebird on Muttatrh (sp) I fly over just fine until I get to the point where I realise Ive never landed in Pr I try tilt the nose back but I go flying back and am very unstable. So any tips are very welcome! I managed to land on the aircraft but I came in like a jet and took a bit of damage.

Thanks,

Moncai

As far as i learned, you pull back too much. Pull a little less

hover right above the place you want to land
reduce throtle
try to keep the LB stable while landing

I noticed that a lot of pilots have problems keeping it steady when they land (or hover just above the ground). They'll be OK for a sec but than they will start tiping over, and to survive they will increse throttle and lift of - killing few people in the proces.
Ive read in one of the topics or guides, and later tried, jumping out and it works.
What do you do is when you get realy close to the ground just jump out. Without the pilot the little bird will fall like a rock but since its only 1 meter it wont get damaged and everyone will (most likely) survive.
Make sure you are hovering steady of course.
Not best of solutions :)

Come in fast, slide the last meters and you're done.

Go off line, make your own server and practice. Practice practice practice. These girls are a little touchy and moody. You need to be gentle with them. The little bird especially. The black hawk is more like a rather large woman, sort of like a bus. You can be a little rougher with her, but still be gentle. Minor inputs is the key. Don't over correct or you'll die. Just go offline and fly around and get the feel of how they handle. Then you can practice your landings.

right is soon as you pull up to slow push the collective away to reduce lift and roll the nose forward and you should have stoped fairly easilly.

Most people steady up and then drop down - A key thing here is to not hold down the down your 'down' key. Too many people do that thinking DOWN WILL TAKE ME DOWN and end up blowing up the chopper because of too quick a desent.

The other way to land is to start flying fast and low as you make your approach, then tilt back so you pretty much stop on the spot, hover for a second to let folks jump out, and then head about your business.

It's quicker, it's sneakier, it's also more difficult but there's less chance of being shot to shit if you do it the 2nd way.

I don't know bout littlebird but the blackhawk is designed to take abuse in the tail bloom section of the chopper during landings so pilots in real life can actually land on the rear wheel first then slam the front onto the ground which is useful in emergency landings...I don't know if the PR team implemented this feature though *hint* hint*.
I find stable then power down works best, you can practice the littlebird slide landing thing though.

I've found when you pitch up to the angle at which you'd land tail wheel first that the chopper will go backwards.

It's pretty risky.

Don't pitch up with full throttle. Before pitching up you need to throttle back. That will stop the blades from wanting to bring the chopper up, and in your case, backwards, since that's the direction of up then you pull back.

On a completely unrelated note, I've been siged, woot!

I'm talking about on zero throttle.

Saying that I've not really given it a fair go, although pretty pointless anyway really.

I suggest you dont use Mutrah to practice on whilst online. There are Many AA guns over a small area and laning anywhere except the docks is suicde(as a learnt to day lol).

Jabal would be much better, leaving you open areas to fly and learn to move about smoothly and good places to practice landing.

What ever you do, dont try to fly blackhawks 1st. You will only end up in the big drip, sleeping with the fishes. Use the Littlebirds,

1)What you should learn to do 1st is just accend, hover then descend.
After that, accend, slowly move down the carrier then land.

2)Once you feel comfortable with that, start flying away from the carrier and then doing a simple landing by going over the carrier then landing slowly.

3)Then once you got that down, try landing by comming in more flat and level and slowing landing, slowing down by pulling back quite a bit. Those are the safest landings when under fire, as you will find when in Mutrah.

[At this point, you must know that choppers have a tendancy to rolling nad tipping over. Try to use the flattest of ground if you HAVE to land.]

4) The harder landings will not be landing at all. Basicly, you will have to come into land but then hover a few feat off the ground, low enough that the grunts can hop out fine. Also, try the landing above but people on the side of Large hills and mountains(that are not too steep to stand on so the troops dont fly down the hill and die lol). That way, you will have to be quick to go into a hover and wait for everyone to dismount, all on un even ground.

With Parachutes removed, its not that useful bit helps with your ability to controll choppers.

5)Being static. it doesnt sound that hard but it really can be. Try flying along at a slow speed then try to get the chopper to stay as still as possible. This may take some time but when you do it, its something. Hey, you might be able to do some sniping from a chopper, like Me and Dukemeister did a few times. Real hard though.
When you think your the bizzle with that, try hovering at about 350ft, with no obvious singals as to where and hwo fast you are moving. That will force you to use the instruments and make you one hell of a badass.

I can't stress this enough.

Do not practice online.

When you crash, you kill everyone, and annoy them to no end. Use offline for practicing. Then when you go back online you can amaze everyone with your 1337 skillz.

slapping the tail end of the blackhawk first works for me. time it on pull back and slow down and throttle down all at the same time for a quick landing. Goodluck hahahHH! I love those wheels.
