HMMWV suggestion

Post by Cheeseman »

UMM… don’t want to be an ***, but I think the M1114 HMMWVs in Project Reality needs to be replaced with the latest Up-armored variant. I really don’t know if the present HMMWVs in PR are supposedly Up-armored or not, but they don’t look or perform like one. Recently I’ve noticed that the majority of people in PR seem to ignore the HMMWV and go for APC’s instead. I mean sure I would chose a LAV-25 over a Humvee any day, but I see people waiting for a LAV to spawn while standing next to a perfectly okay HMMWV. In other instances I’ve seen people abandon HMMWVs far from the battle because the Humvee in PR lacks to stand up to anything. The worst is when people abandon them in the middle of an airport. For instance, this other day in Al Basrah I was driving theM1114 through a main road when I was ambushed with gun fire. Will guess what? I was shot and killed while driving without the HMMWV giving out a single smoke.
Basically what I’m trying to say is that the M1114 in PR is next to useless. Add the fact that APCs have the plus side of being used as spawn points and you have one useless HMMWV. It’s like driving the insurgent civilian vehicle.

The problems:

*It looks like the standard armored HMMWV without armor (which is not designed to protect the crew from 7.62mm or the impact of an IED).
*It lacks protection on the doors (no glass)
*The gunners position lacks the new side and back protection which the new HMMWVs provide.

Suggestion:

The United States Military has already upgraded their HMMWVs in Iraq with the up-armored kits and in early 2006 they took the Initiative to bring in the new M1151 enhanced HMMWV. Now in reality the M1114 up-armored will not be completely absolute as it’s been stated:

“In spite of the planned manufacture of more than 2,500 of the new vehicles this calendar year, the PEO stressed that the M1114 UAH will not go away. “There still will be a purpose for the up-armored Humvees that have been built,” he said. “It’s just that they are more for the role where you need permanent armor, such as convoy security and things like that. The military police have those types of missions so they will continue to be used. We’re not going to pull them out of the Army as the 1151s and 1152s come in, but the 1151s and 1152s will basically be the next generation that will replace our Level II armor that we have now.”

But for a map like Al Basrah, the situation is much like Baghdad were the standard HMMWVs were upgraded with the up-armored kits and now the M1151s are the next step to better suit the military needs.

My suggestion is since PR is based in the near future, then I’m sure the M1151s will make the majority of the personal carriers used by the infantry. Now I’m not asking for the HMMWV to be as strong as the APC, but it should at least keep the crew alive when struck by an IED or RPG7. Also it should have bulletproof windows on the doors for protection along with better armor plating design for the gunner. At present time the Humvee in PR looks and perfroms like its was shipped from the Gulf War.

Now hers the HMMWV in PR:

Hers the M1114 up-armored version currently used in Iraq:

And last, but not least the next generation M1151 Enhanced Armament Carrier:

(note the M1151 is very similar to the M1114, with the main difference being the quick change armor)

do not take this comment seriously:
i think pr guys put that armor backwards so everything can go in but nothing goes out :p

This has been suggested several times before, and I'm sure the devs are well aware of the issue.

However, there are other things taking the dev's attention away from the heavy jeeps already in game, so it might be a while before its delt with.
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

IIRC, the passengers in the back could use their weapons to shoot out of the windows...

I just want to see the driver and passanger side windows rolled up, i mean WTF, what dumbass would be driving around in a warzone with the driver side window down, those things are there for a reason. This is the passanger side window on a HMMWV --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXfUphDyUf4
