Little Bit Of Frustration
I really love this mod, and the whole "Reality" factor, I think it's great, but what good does Reality do, if the players themselves won't work in a "realistic" fashion? I find Vanilla antics being brought by players into the Reality Mod. And it's quite frustrating.
I just find the game still being a free for all, and the attempts this mod makes to force people to work together, really don't happen often. The teamwork, while definately better than Vanilla BF2, is still lacking. Now I know this isn't the developers fault at all, but I still find the teamwork to be lacking in almost every way.
However those amazing teamwork opportunities that actually do present themselves once in a while happened yesterday. I was flying an A-10 on Al Basrah with another player in my squad, so we both had an A-10 and we both had VOIP, we pretty much worked the entire map, it was amazing, both of using VOIP, constantly communicating, giving each other intel regarding ground targets. It was probably the most fun I've ever had.
I personally love this mod though.

What servers do you play on? If you're playing on 24 Basrah then don't expect to see much teamwork of any sort. Most of the times I play I can find a good squad to play in and if there is a commander who does their jobs usually the whole team will start to work in unison. You'd be surprised how much people listen to a voice. I once became a commander and pretty much turned a game around not through my skill, but just because I was giving orders when nobody else was.

Yeah, I play tactical gamer whenever I get the chance. They are the least laggy server for me and you're pretty much guaranteed to find a good squad.
Like I said, I've never seen really good teamwork on that server. I think it's just because every nub wants to play Basrah or something.

I find that the amount of teamwork is rather impressive.
I've met a lot of great cooperative players. I had the squad of God on Basrah once. 2 cars and one technical. We drove around with AA gunner out of the sunroof and we just raped the skies with the technical providing heavy MG cover and protection. Was so much fun.

Everyone has a different experience. I, generally speaking, haven't found too many good squads on Basrah. As far as I remember, I've only played with good teamwork twice once when I was leading a squad for the USMC and once in an insurgent squad.

To be fair, I havn't played a game literally once, in the past few days in which I wasn't part of a squad with total teamwork in force.
Now, a whole TEAM working together (through a commander) is indeed, a rarer site i must admit!

You also must remember this is a fairly new release, and possibly one of the biggest (in terms of change and content) that the BF2 modding community has ever seen. There are bound to be "noobs" (for want of a better word) who are still on the steep learning curve PR presents. I know it gets frustrating but with some encouragement and helpful pointers some players will get the grasp of the game.
Then 40% of people will go back to vBF2.....

I'd love to see PRM enforce the squad system more 'aggressively' for want of a better word. The game works when all you can see on your minimap is a big moving green blob and that should be a necessity for EVERY squad not just the ones with a squad leader who happens to know what he is doing. IMO the only way of doing that is to have a 20m radius around the squad leader that will trigger a 'return to formation' or 'report to your squad leader immediately' prompt if a squad member strays outside that range. There is no reason ever why you should be ever away from your squad and it would help eliminate the more common and infuriating lone wolf encounters in favour of full squads duking it out at every turn. It would be a game mechanic that would encourage squad play while still acknowledging and allowing people who cannot play as a team to do so.

I tried to voice my concerns about this, but some people who are for "realism" shouted me down.
Spawn time increase DOES NOT make people play carefully. I have never thought "oh, let me stay hidden, because if i die, i have 45 sec of spawn time" -If i spot an enemy, i engage. One of us dies and thats it. Increasing spawn times, just makes the game more frustrating and less fun. Dont believe me, play city maps. Bodies are everywhere
The same goes for suppressing fire. The weapons have been tweaked in a way that its almost impossible unless you are support. The ak47 and variants are designed to spray a wall of lead in the enemy's direction. Its almost always used in full auto. Why is the game forcing us to go one shot while playing mec or insurgents?

The whole city map spawn time thing is unfortunate though...that's when you need squadplay the most, in cramped combat environments. Being a lone-wolf in a map like Sunset City or Mao Valley would be an absolute nightmare. I wonder what the community could do to enforce this behavior more since spawn-times don't really seem to be working...they just aren't afraid to die lol.
PS: You do notice how IRL insurgents tend to spray in the general direction of their targets and hit nothing right?

Can't mod the players heh
But we can .. hopefully .. create a game where if you use teamwork and tactics, it can be a TON of fun and very rewarding and where .. ideally .. if you don't use teamwork and tactics it really sucks balls.
v0.6 will introduce some missing elements, then hopefully some of the window shopper folks will move along and a smaller community of more teamwork oriented players will emerge.
Happens with every release. Taking a bit longer with this one because it seems to be getting a fairly steady influx of new players and the changes are fairly radical for "veterans".
C'est la vie.

This is why I prefer a switch to scenario based maps rather than ticket based. Killing whoever you see should not be a valid tactic.BigPipe wrote:Spawn time increase DOES NOT make people play carefully. I'd like to see HUMUNGO temporary(for the next spawn only) spawn times for Pilots and BIG temporary spawn times for Crewmen. That way they will learn to chreish their lives and there is a point to having a parachute/pistol/field dressing/red smoke because its very tempting to just press 'Suicide' and respawn. A Pilot/crewman takes a lot of time to train and would be a greater target for hostiles. Perhaps a point increase for killing them when on foot?
