Smoother switch between rifle and grenade launcher

Smoother switch between rifle and grenade launcher

In BF2, when you want to switch from the rifle to the grenade launcher (as an assault soldier) you press 4 and the character brings down his rifle and brings it up again - but this time with the grenade launching iron sight pulled up. Would it be possible to add an animation so that the rifle never leaves the screen? You're shooting enemies with the rifle, then you press 4 and the character's hand simply leaves the trigger, pulls up the grenade launcher sight and places his index finger on the second trigger. All this without the character's rifle leaving the screen. This would be more seamless and would heighten the immersion. Considering the bayonet thread, this could be done with the bayonet as well. With a simple press of button nr. 1, a left-mouse-button click would lead to a stab with the bayonet. In this case there would be no animation between the "rifle state" and the "bayonet state" since the rifle on the screen looks the same in each case. The only difference would be what the left mouse button click does, shoots or stabs.

Another idea for the bayonet would be to assign the melee attack of stabbing to its own button, for example Q. This would feel more realistic than having to switch between the rifle mode and the bayonet mode (if the bayonet is indeed added).

I hope I made myself clear. It's a bit difficult to describe.

Wow, I'm such an idiot. Little did I know that BF2 already had the smooth animation when going from rifle to grenade launcher. However, when going back to the rifle the character mysteriously dips it just under the screen. I wonder why DICE didn't just do the same animation but in reverse, couldn't have been impossible.

i can see your new to these forums but its scary that somone posted allmost the exact same post near the time i joined :S. Anyway glad your paying attention to detail.

yeah its just one of the many examples where EA/DICE didnt put 100% into it or just fell asleep at the wheel.

Actually, there is an animation where the rifle lowers the gun slightly, but no off the screen, puts up the launcher sight, then raises it again. The gun never leaves the screen. But when you switch back to the rifle it does the normal animation where the rifle comes from the bottom of the screen. Is that wha you meant?
