Comander? Are you there?

Post by dandred »

We really need a way for comanders to be more active in this game.

At the moment it's very rare to see a commander, and then not even a good one. (on pubs were I play and most people who play this mod)

How could we make this better?

At the moment games take so long no one wants to be a comander.

I've played so many maps and at the last minute people are asking for a commnder.

This needs help, give the commander more power or just scrap them, and give the squad leaders that power......... :? :

Sorry for sp's

Think next update will focus more on the commander function. Problem with being commander is IMO that everybody can apply for it.

As i see it there should be added a new point system (Star Points) for commanders that give or take star points after how well a player perform the commander role.

The star points should be used not only to indicate how good a commander actually is, but also to determine higher rank, when applying for the C function.

And that concept of being a good C will change since u can receive and loose star point according to your performances.

Define irony. A bunch of guys playing PR year after year. A game teaching initiative as the prime mover.
However, in regard to EA, these guys never took the initiative.

I played with a couple people on Basrah and using Ventrilo. I was on the ground leading a squad, another guy was in the A-10, and the third guy was commander. He would spot targets for us, and watch my position and tell me where the enemies were and which way I had to go to avoid them etc... That's really the only time where I felt the commander was a valuable asset in the mod. Most other times you don't even notice, unless there is artillery on a map, then a commander is a good thing to have.

Well apparently u haven't had the experience of being lead by a good commander yet cause a good commander (with disciplined squad leaders), will make a remarkable difference.

U know it when u experience it.

i love being commander somtimes, i more of a cautious and look at where the enemies are kind of commander, i like to see what the enemies intentions are so if one map has a choke point like only one way, i try to make a sturdy hold your ground "defence!".

i like to defend more than attack =] if you let the enemy come to you, they come to you to die :P thats what i say :P

I think the probs with commanders is people think that they can't get involved in game play as much (i.e. they have to set at the main spawn and command for the whole game)...but in my opinion commanders should be able to get stuck right in, so long as they set back for a minute and tell everyone what to do, and re group everyone when things go wrong etc...

The way i see it, the SL's ARE the ones with the power, they're the ones who can ask for supplies/arty, and they choose wether or not they'll listen to CO's orders. I dont feel very powerfull at all playing CO, to be honest.
Problem beeing, most SL's dont use the CO, and its no fun running around as a Star on the minimap lonewolfing, when you're services and the advantiges for the whole team are not needed by the ego/seminoob-SL's dominating most servers. It is a pretty crappy job when you can't make the squads work with each other.
When SL's learn to make use of the commander, maybe more people'll want to take the role. If the communication is working, the CO probably won't have time "to get stuck right in[...]," he/she'll be at full work zooming in and out of birdview, and make known what is going on in full perspective.
But then again, i'd rather take a CO busy with shooting and dead half the time but still accepts the barrage once in a while, than no CO at all.

Orangez = Good Commander

Feels like he is only concentrating with your squad and gives you arty just when you need it.
