Remove the shotgun, replace with anything
The US shotgun is completely useless. Rifles perform better than it in every aspect, close range, and especially long range.
The MEC shotgun is effective at close range, simply because it fires quickly. Even then it will run out of ammo long before a rifle will.
Playing as Engineer with a shotgun is a death wish, especially on maps such as Mao Valley.

I agree,
The shotgun is very useless. An assault rifle will outperform them in every situation, even in city maps.
So, for the love of god, get rid of the shotguns. It's only thing that keeps me from going Engy in some maps.

The problem is not with the shotgun but with the player. A shotgun is different from a rifle and my guess is your not adjusting your play style. I would say it is even more effective than a full automatic at close range. One hit in close range will launch the target backwards try it out with a buddy.
The problem is if you miss you are a screwed if you have a pump, but then again if you miss with a rifle you don't magically kill your target.
Why should it be removed for your personal pleasure if others enjoy it?

Don't remove the shotty. It CAN be awsome. Right now it isn't.
It has been discussed many times on these forums. It's an easy fix. The choke is too far spread. Even my pistol grip Mossberg 500 doesn't spread as far as these do. And Buckshot needs about a 150%-200% damage increase at least. So simple. Do these and if people still whine about it then remove it.
I think that this mod needs a shotty. So please don't remove it yet.

omg I thoroghly enjoyed myself with the shotty today on Sunset City on PTG server, that kit just seems to rock on Sunset City.
I was mr locate and destroy rally points and sneak up on APC/Armour also it was handy to have a shotty when recapping lower city.
Pick your kit accordingly for each map/situation and you will enjoy.
Shotty has really grown on me
(edit: yeah the shotty does seem a bit weak unless you are in their face, but today I was mostly in their face when I used it! there was one time I had taken out both US spawn points over the river and came across one at the side of the road. As I got closer a spec ops spawned and went prone, literally the other side of the road and I was on high ground. took aim carefully and shot him about 4 times before he realised where I was and just shot me down like I was tickling his arse with a feather lol)

If you miss with a rifle, you can simply shoot again within a second of the last shot. The US shotgun can't. The thing is using the shotguns (particulary the pumpies) requires a different mentality to using the assault rifles. You need much more timing and you have to pick your shots because you cant afford to make as many mistakes as someone with a rifle can.
Its useable now, but needs the scatter tightend up and the damage increased, though I'm sure it does take out an unarmoured target in one hit.
And the current USMC shotgun will be replaced with the M1014 (benelli M4, currently used by the brits in this mod), which means that unless the Brit shotty is changed, only the PLA will have a pump action.

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

i will butt fvck you if you remove the shotgun. just make it realistic, right now the buckshot is like if you picked up a bunch of gravel off the side of the road and threw it at somebody. and the slug works like you picked up a golf ball sized rock and threw it at somebody.
just give it balls. in reality shotgun is probably the most feared hand weapon around. id much rather get shot in the gut with a rifle then a shotgun, rifle would make a nice "clean hole" while shotgun (slug or buckshot) will just destroy you and turn you into a pile of ***.
o ya, it would be the coolest thing ever, when the shotgun works, to have them make the pump sound so the enemies could hear (M11-87/NOAR only) when your guy puts a shell in it.
they would hear the pump's CHK-CHK sound and be like...o fuck.. then of course death would quickly ensue.
everybody has seen it on tv or heard from someone ells that that is the worst sound you can hear in a combat situation or steeling something from somebodies room. its just no good.

I agree in that the choke of the current shotgun (I'm thinking British at the moment) is far too wide. Anything past 10 or so meters tends not to get harmed, forcing me to use slugs most of the time. I think the only tweaking needed is for the choke for the sake of the buckshot should be reduced so that a realistic spread is achieved, so that people don't have to favour slugs for anything but close-quarter combat.suburban wrote:Don't remove the shotty.
