Please remove tracers from assault rifles

Post by Shining Arcanine »

In Project Reality, it should be possible to do flanking maneuvers and eliminate enemy troop positions without the enemy knowing until it is too late, but due to the tracer rounds, the enemy knows the exact direction of incoming bullets and can respond, even when they should be eliminated. Due to tracer rounds being used in everything except sniper rifles, people do not have to watch their flanks or worry about the range of enemy weapons, as they have the tracers to tell them where their opponents are and the lack of tracers to inform them of sniper rounds.

This is hurting gameplay; no modern army uses such tactics, and in modern militaries, tracers are restricted to situations where they are beneficial to them and not to the enemy, which only involve automatic machine guns so that friendly troops will not run into the stream of bullets, so that enemy troops will know to keep their heads down when friendly troops want them to know, maximizing the effect of suppression fire and to improve the aim of vehicle mounted weapons. Tracers, in any other application, are beneficial to the enemy, hurting gameplay.

In past versions of Project Reality, enemy troops could not tell the range at which bullets were being fired, such that bullets from snipers and ground infantry had the same effect on enemy troops. Unless people played tactically, such that they were firing the bullets, people would have to stop and discern the direction of bullets and the distances at which the bullets are fired; otherwise they would be killed and in situations where they should be killed, as to ignore incoming bullets is sheer stupidity.

Now that tracers are used, enemy troops know the ranges at which bullets are being fired upon them, making snipers less effective and allowing enemy troops to eliminate flanking squads that should have eliminated them. While in the past, people complained about snipers at times when no one on the opposing team were snipers, we now have realistic sounds, which ensure that people can distinguish whether snipers are engaging them or people with assault rifles and good aim, without giving away the exact positions of their opponents.

Furthermore, despite Project Reality being a reality modification, tracers are used on maps where it is specifically stated that the USMC is trying to minimize damage, which tracer rounds do not do, as they cause fires. Not only are they used on maps where the USMC tries to minimize damage, but they are used in daylight situations. Tracers should not be in assault rifles in a reality modification. I ask the developers to please remove the tracer rounds from the assault rifles, at the very least on daytime maps.

I believe tracers should only be used on mounted guns and the SAW.

no

:p

they are there for a reason .. irl I have about 3 billion times more fidelity available to me to help pinpoint sounds and directions of sounds.

tracers are 1 in 5 on Rifleman class and derivatives.

anybody sitting still firing at a position over and over without moving deserves to be shot.

locked cuz I am not opening this up for discussion debate, which leaving the thread open tends to do.
